Accessing ready made photos
An easy way to source quality photos is to purchase some that are ready made and easily available.
Image library
MDU has compiled an image library (staff access only) of various high calibre images that may be suitable for your needs and meet the UniSA photographic guidelines. Most images in the library are available in three file sizes:
- corporate web jpeg: suitable for standard corporate web use
- large jpeg: suitable for web use and small print (image approx 5cm x 7cm at highest resolution)
- tiff file: suitable for professional print.
Should I use stock imagery?
Stock images can be useful for brainstorming image concepts, however we prefer to use ‘real’ UniSA people and 'real' UniSA places in our photography as much as possible for an authentic representation of the University. The following are stock imagery websites used by the University:
- gettyimages.com provides creative, contemporary, highly professional photographs for you to choose from
- iStockphoto provides a collection of 'member-generated royalty-free images'
- Free images, a UK company, provides free images and a search facility for browsing.
Warning: you need to be careful about using
stock imagery in marketing materials. As other universities are also taking
advantage of these resources, we risk losing our identity if a photo we use is also used
by another university. Also, in marketing materials, giving credit for a
photo to another institution is best avoided.

If in doubt about the appropriateness of a photo you have selected, email MDU's Publications Coordinator. You can send a link to the photo by email.
