Golden Key International Honour Society

The Golden Key International Honour Society is a student run honour society.

Founded in 1977, Golden Key has some 285 university Chapters across the United States and other countries. The Society expanded to Australia in 1993 with the University of South Australia being charted in 1998. The Society has now extended to Chapters in Malaysia and Canada. The Society plans to continue chartering additional Chapters at other Australian universities and in the United Kingdom and South Africa.

Honour Societies are well recognised in the United States. Their roles include establishing contacts between academically talented students in institutions of higher learning, providing links between students from diverse academic backgrounds and reinforcing students’ contacts with academic staff.

Honour Societies also provide scholarship support (members’ subscriptions allow the University of South Australia to award a number of scholarships based on academic merit and community service) and, in the case of Golden Key, can help to open up career development opportunities. Other benefits include Chapter activities which can enhance the personal and professional development of members in preparation for their future employment or further studies, and access to the Society’s network of university Chapters should a member contemplate future travel or studies in North America.
