Study Education at UniSA

The School of Education has a long and respected history in preparing dynamic, socially conscious educators of the future and was recently ranked amongst the World Top 100 in Education in the 2014 QS Subject Rankings.

UniSA offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in education, each providing extensive hands-on experience to prepare and qualify graduates for a career in their chosen field of education.

The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) prepares graduates to teach from birth to eight years-of-age, the Bachelor of Education (Primary) for students to be generalist primary teachers from reception to year Seven and the Bachelor of Education (Primary and Middle) prepares graduates to teach from reception to year seven, with a three to seven focus, as well as specialisation in two learning areas up to year ten. The Master of Teaching provides those with an undergraduate degree a pathway to becoming a teacher at a chosen level of specialisation. Furthermore, the Master of Education is available to qualified educators who are looking to engage with and understand the current theories, research, debates and practices in a selection of specialised educational fields.

Students gain field-based experience in the education industry in the first six months of study, through professional experience placements, and developing an in depth understanding of the diverse community teaching contexts and roles. Students’ skills and knowledge are progressively developed as they become increasingly involved with all aspects of education, including but not limited to material preparation, addressing student needs, behaviour management and extracurricular activities.

Successful completion of this program provides a recognised academic qualification, which will enable graduates to apply for teacher registration in South Australia, interstate and in some overseas countries. Applicants should note that there are other criteria determining eligibility for registration by the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia and other registration and regulatory authorities. Applicants are advised to check registration requirements as they are subject to change.
