Foundation Studies

Foundation Studies is a fee-free, one year program for students with no previous qualifications (student amenities fees may apply).

Who is it for?

The program is designed for people who are returning to study, who may not have any qualifications, or for English as a second language students.

No formal qualifications are required for entry.  However, for semester one entry, applicants must be 18 years or over before 1 February in the intended year of study. For midyear entry, applicants must be 18 years or over before 1 July in the intended year of study.

Applicants who have completed a recognised award at Certificate IV level or higher will not be considered for admission to this program. This program is only available to Australian citizens, permanent residents, humanitarian visa holders and New Zealand residents.

What will I study?

Students will complete courses such as Critical Literacy, Introductory Computing and Introduction to Tertiary Learning which will give them basic skills required for successful university study.  Students then choose additional courses related to their preferred field of study (which can include prerequisite courses).

The program is offered in part-time, full-time, internal and external study modes. Students can apply to study the program in Adelaide or via one of our regional campuses at Whyalla or Mt Gambier.

Foundation Studies students must ensure they seek advice from the Program Director if they are looking to progress to a degree which has prerequisite requirements.

Where does it lead?

The Foundation Studies program can lead to entry into a university degree or to the second year of a UniSA College diploma program.  A competitive grade point average (GPA) is required.
