New web resource for rural students
UniSA
has developed an online workshop resource to make the transition to
university smoother for students from rural and interstate areas.
The new Moving on to Uni web workshops provide a bevy of useful information on everything from finding accommodation and rental agreements to scholarships, budgeting and campus orientation.
Devised by Learning Connection counsellor Sue Lintern and learning adviser Helen Johnston, the online workshops are aimed at students, their families and friends.
“It’s a big enough step starting university in your home town, but students from rural areas are usually having to deal with an even wider range of issues,” says Lintern.
“It can be also be difficult for parents to say goodbye but at the same time say ‘we’re there if you need us’ – which is why we’ve created two workshops, one for the student and another for family members.”
