Shopping around for career options
More than 100 high school students experienced a unique side of university campus life at the end of September.
A private CareerShop concert featuring local band The Sundance Kids, was held in the new Student Lounge at the City West campus off North Terrace.
Highlighting the diverse paths students and graduates can take during and post study, the band included UniSA Education graduate Jason Shepherd while DJ Kieran Andrews (aka DJ Andrew K) is a recent Software Engineering graduate and the MC for the day was current Journalism student Amy Davis.
UniSA Marketing Coordinator of Future Student Contact Sharna McKenzie said the concert was a fun way to raise awareness about the options that high school students have open to them.
"Deciding on your future can be a daunting task for high school
students," McKenzie said. "UniSA’s CareerShop online portal is a great
source for students to find out more information about the possible
career paths that interest them.
"CareerShop has proven to be very popular with our future students since launching just one year ago – close to 5000 students have created their own personalised CareerShop page."
Year 12 Wilderness student Alannah Williams (pictured) won tickets to the concert and had the opportunity to interview the band. CareerShop has helped her to decide to pursue journalism as a career.
"CareerShop has been fantastic in providing relevant and easy to follow information that enabled me to determine the exact course I would like to undertake next year," she said. "If not for the information I received about journalism and international studies as a double degree, it is unlikely that I would have put this as my first preference.
"I have also been intrigued by the comments from current journalism and international studies students at UniSA, and the descriptions of their trips overseas made me even more passionate about following this career path."
McKenzie encourages anyone who is interested in university study to check out the CareerShop site.
