Australian art ambassador in Venice
A UniSA Masters of Visual Arts student and part-time lecturer has been selected to represent Australia at one of the world’s most important visual arts events.
Brigid Noone (pictured) has landed in Europe to spend two months at the Venice Biennale. Held every two years, the Biennale transforms Venice into the leading showcase for contemporary art, and is attended by thousands of the world’s leading curators, collectors, gallery directors and critics.
Noone is thrilled by the opportunity to attend.
"I am really excited by the chance to meet other artists from all around the world," she said.
"Venice showcases what the contemporary art world considers the best of the best in art.
"I will be continuing my Masters research and am looking forward to drawing on inspiration from Venice to work on some small paintings."
Noone completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts with honours and is now more than half-way through her Masters degree with UniSA. Her research is focusing on vulnerability and generosity in contemporary figurative painting.
She was selected from candidates throughout Australia to attend the major art event by the Australian Council for the Arts. Arts SA is also supporting Noone and the two other Adelaide participants (Sasha Grbich and Kate Moskwa) who are attending.
The Australian representatives will work in the Australian Pavilion as cultural ambassadors, giving public talks about the Australian artists exhibiting and their work, as well as working as exhibition attendants.
The Venice Biennale runs from June 7 to November 22. Besides the art aspect which Noone is involved with, the event also covers other contemporary arts including dance, architecture, cinema, music and theatre.
