International students get portable portal

Future international students will have a new interactive hub of information about UniSA next month
- in the shape of an innovative CD.
The Experience UniSA student interactive CD is a new take on more traditional means of communicating information to international students considering study at UniSA.
Developer, Mark Charnley says it is a fresh approach that the computer-savvy will both relate to and interact with.
"The information on Experience UniSA CD is like that you’d find on a website - but self-contained," Charnley says.
"While it does have links to the main UniSA website, the CD has been custom-made to hold program and campus information, important dates and to give international students an idea about what it’s like to live in Adelaide.
"Students can explore and interact with a Flash animated house that locates information in a quirky range of places – from a ringing mobile phone, a list on the fridge or a few TV channels, to a coffee-table book about living in Adelaide."
The house allows students to search for the information they need while also being able to customise the space – changing anything from the décor to the radio channel – with additional quick links for easy navigation.
"It has been created for prospective students without internet connection or in areas without high-speed broadband," he says.
"Instead of a conventional brochure, the CD is a format that is accessible to all. The packaging is also lightweight and simple, and contains an information booklet incorporated into a CD holder made of 100 per cent recycled materials."
At the launch of the CD at the Kerry Packer Civic Gallery, Pro Vice Chancellor, International and Development, Dr Anna Ciccarelli said the project exemplified the spirit of innovation at UniSA.
