A panoply of Playford prizes

Six outstanding UniSA students have been recognised for their excellent academic performance and leadership potential in the latest round of Playford Memorial Trust awards.

Deputy Federal Opposition Leader Julie Bishop presented each of the following awardees of the Playford Memorial Trust Honours Scholarship with a cheque for $1000:

Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering category

  • Tina Law, Bachelor of Applied Science (Biodiversity, Environment and Park Management), for an honours project that aims to facilitate understanding of the seed biology of selected Lomandra and Gahnia species, for which no information is available
  • Nathan Valente, Bachelor of Engineering (Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering), who aims to work on the Air Warfare Destroyer Project after finishing his cadetship with the Defence Materiel Organisation
  • David White, Bachelor of Engineering (Manufacturing and Manufacturing Engineering), whose honours project is in the area of reducing energy consumption in building insulation and air conditioning

Civil and Water Engineering category

  • Julian Strudwick, double degree in Bachelor of Engineering (Civil and Water Engineering) and Bachelor of Applied Science (Biodiversity, Environmental and Park Management)

The Playford Memorial Trust Science Scholarship Regional Support Program prize was presented by State Labor MP Trish White to two UniSA students who hail from the Loxton district:

  • Donna Kupke, Bachelor of Quantitative Finance, who hopes to use her mathematics and finance skills to effectively and efficiently allocate water from the River Murray, and
  • Jarrad Thiele, Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Education, who is majoring in mathematics and applied physics and hopes to use his qualifications to teach science in country South Australia.
