Golden Key to success
by Vincent Ciccarello
About
500 of UniSA’s top 15 per cent of undergraduate academic high achievers
accepted the invitation to join the prestigious Golden Key International
Honour Society. Last month they were joined by friends and family in
Brookman Hall at the annual Golden Key induction ceremony at City East
campus.
Pro Vice Chancellor and Vice President: Academic, Professor Peter Lee presented new members with membership certificates. Scholarships were awarded to Danielle Hanisch, Shelley Edwards and Alessar El-Sayed for their outstanding achievement and tireless involvement in community service and campus-based activities.
Three new honorary members were also inducted into the Society: Pro Vice Chancellor and Vice President: Organisational Strategy and Change, Professor Hilary Winchester; businesswoman, communications consultant Diana Carroll; and Unit Executive Officer, Student and Academic Services, Marianne Huish.
A UniSA graduate, Diana Carroll inspired the audience with her keynote address on how Golden Key’s values – integrity, respect, team work, inclusiveness, collaboration and innovation – are relevant in today’s working life.
"The world of today and tomorrow is not about information; it’s not even about knowledge," she said.
"Success in the future will be about understanding – understanding the world, understanding people, and understanding ourselves."
She said membership of the Golden Key Society offered excellent networking and personal development opportunities and encouraged all students to "network with people in other divisions, mingle with the research students, and really make use of the academic staff – use their knowledge, their skills, their contacts".
Golden Key is an academic honour society that recognises academic achievement and has nearly 350 chapters at universities in several countries including Australia, the United States and Malaysia.
