Congratulations to Fiona Hay who scooped the pool of prizes at last month’s inaugural Master of Physiotherapy graduation. Fiona was awarded the Ruth Grant prize for Academic Excellence and the Elma Casely Prize for the student whose assessments throughout the program show the greatest clinical and human relationship skills. In a combined event prior to the formal graduation event, students celebrated with academic staff and members of the South Australian Branch of the Australian Physiotherapists Association.

Short and Sweet

Tim Winton, Peter Carey, and Frank Moorhouse might be our most famous short story authors, but the artform is a living, breathing entity. As the compulsory publication aspect of their creative writing program, a group of students from Dr Ioana Petrescu’s short story course have collaborated to publish The House that Words Built. It took two years to complete, with students writing and editing the stories. Staff Ioana Petrescu and Paul Skrebels, and students Russell Talbot, Suzi Clift, Troy Foster, Ian Bourne, Rebecca Freeborn, Rob Parry, Jodie George, Melissa Leaver, Fleur Lewis, Jessica Sullivan, Heidi Marwood, Christopher Franks, Dorothy Shorne and Sam Kellett were all involved. If you’d like to be transported to another place, for just a little while, The House that Words Built is available from Imprints Bookshop, Dymocks, Unibooks, and Wakefield Press.

Sweden in Adelaide

Big changes and plans for better cooperation among European educational institutions may provide new opportunities for Australian students to study there, and the Swedish are wasting no time in enticing Australian students into a bit of northern exposure. Representatives from eight Swedish universities are making a grand tour of Australia to help establish study exchange relationships on a country-to-country basis. UniSA is hosting the delegation in South Australia - it already has close research ties with Umeä University and welcomes many Swedish students each year. The Swedish contingent will be in Adelaide on October 4 before flying to the eastern states to continue their road show. The aim of the game is to improve and enhance crosscultural education opportunities.
