The Third Degree - Student TV
by Emma Masters
What happens when uni students turn the camera onto themselves?
That’s the title statement of a new television show that the University of South Australia Television Association is working towards broadcasting on community station Channel 31.
Called The Third Degree, the show’s name and concept was developed during three workshops held at Magill campus during the mid-year study break. And while the show recently missed out on grant funding, the student television association president and former film and video production student Adele Kirby said the workshops were a fine example of the students’ enthusiasm and creativity bursting to hit the air-waves.
Two of the sessions focused on technical production skills with Channel 9 camera operator Mark Himsworth holding an advanced workshop teaching students camera and presentation skills. Students then developed show ideas and concepts. With Australian celebrity and young film-maker Quentin Kenihan leading the way, it wasn’t long before they’d found not only a catchy name and tag line but had a clear idea about the show’s themes and style.
Now with their ideas further cemented, the students are searching to find sponsorship for the show. If you’re interested in finding out more about student television, email student.television@usasa.unisa.edu.au or call Adele Kirby on 0402 642 186.
