Putting Tasma to the test

Tasma Wagner is the state finalist in Pharmacy student of the Year

UniSA student Tasma Wagner (right) has been selected as the state finalist in a national Pharmacy Student of the Year competition.

Tasma was selected as the entrant from her fourth year pharmacy class after acing a home medication review test judged by a panel from the competition’s organising body, the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia.

She will compete against finalists from the other states for the pharmacy student of the year title in Adelaide this month.

Tasma, 30, says she’s been helped along by the support of her family, including her daughter Tahlia, whose sensitivity to Mum’s study schedule has been “amazing.”

Whether or not she wins the national competition, Tasma says she’s looking forward to meeting pharmacy students from interstate, and to completing her training with an internship at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital next year.

“Getting through this program has been hard work, but it’s been a lot easier for me because it’s something I really want to do,” she says.

“Pharmacy is an area where you are working with people and you can make a real difference.

“We’ve moved on from the days when pharmacists were always up in the dispensary and hardly had any contact with patients. Now they’re helping people to manage their illness in a more holistic way.”
