Injection of new blood for laboratory science
The School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences is to offer eight new scholarships thanks to South Australian-based Gribbles Pathology.
Gribbles have donated $100,000 to fund the scholarships which are available to fulltime students in the Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine degree. Four places will be offered in 2004, one each for a first, second, third and fourth year student.
Each scholarship is worth $5,000 and will vary in duration from one to four years. The first year scholarships will go to financially disadvantaged students while the second, third and fourth year awards will be based on academic merit.
The agreement continues a tradition of partnership between Gribbles and UniSA and its antecedent institution the South Australian Institute of Technology. The company sponsored the Institute's first lectureship in medical science in 1968 and has remained a major supporter of the medical sciences program.
Managing director Wallace Cameron believes that the scholarships are an investment both in the future of biomedical science in South Australia and of UniSA's medical science program.
