Open Day by the Foreshore
By Emma Masters
If you love live music, you can catch Foreshore – one of the upcoming
movers and shakers of Adelaide's indie music scene – at this year’s
UniSA Open Day.
A four piece rock outfit, Foreshore has been together since 1999. Lead singer and guitarist Nick and drummer Josh were friends in high school and often jammed together when not studying or playing sport. At the same time, Josh was practising with two musically minded family friends Andrew (bass) and Kent (lead guitar). One day they decided to all get together for a jam session and the rest, as they say, is history.
Five years on, Foreshore is playing regular gigs in Adelaide’s live music venues such as the Austral, the Governor Hindmarsh and Jive, and have played interstate a couple of times, with an east coast stint lined up for this summer.
They released a debut EP earlier this year, have had a number one track on the SA music charts and their song Back it Up is currently getting high rotation on Triple M. Many might say these boys are on the up and up.
“Things have been really good for us this year. Releasing our EP as well as getting lots of air play on Triple M has really helped to raise our profile,” says singer and songwriter Nick.
Two of the band members are UniSA students, so it is fitting they headline Open Day on Sunday August 15.
Kent recently completed his degree in Visual Communication and Nick is on the home stretch of his four year physiotherapy program.
Citing a range of influences from Pearl Jam to the Foo Fighters, Radiohead to Motorace, the group play all original songs.
“Before we won Battle of the Bands in 2000, we were all a little nervous about playing our own music,” Nick says.
“But now we’ve gained a lot more confidence. Working with the likes of Chris Tennant, original Super Jesus band member, and getting regular live shows has helped us to step up a level and become more professional.
“We’re very serious about our music and we’re all keen to see where it takes us.”
You can find Foreshore playing at UniSA’s 2004 Open Day, Sunday August 15, at 12.30pm on the Fowler’s Live stage. They’re playing two 45 minute sets, so be sure to check them out – you won’t be disappointed.
