WorkSmart
WorkSmart is a suite of professional development activities designed for professional staff at the University of South Australia.

Utilising the expertise and knowledge of UniSA staff, along with external consultants and training providers, the WorkSmart program adopts a range of strategies to:
- Help people sharpen and develop their skills and capabilities
- Share knowledge among staff about good practice, enhance understanding of the University and its processes
- Build collaboration and networks to support our efforts
** Please note staff must seek the approval of their supervisor before registering for any Worksmart programs. Spaces are limited so at least 48 hours notice must be given should staff become unable to attend a program. Should any staff member fail to attend on more than one occasion without notification, the relevant cost centre will be charged a cancellation fee of $50 per staff member, unless special circumstances apply.

SUCCESSFUL CV WRITING
Overview:
This workshop will give participants an opportunity to review their current curriculum vitae and, with the assistance of Human Resources professionals within the University, participants will have the opportunity to learn different ways of presenting information regarding professional experience, key achievements and marketing qualifications effectively. This session will be most beneficial if you bring your CV with you to use as a working document.
Participants will learn about best practice strategies of presenting information in a CV, including how to present the information in a way that is beneficial to you in pursuing career options in different circumstances.
This session will be conducted with a panel of Human Resource professionals who will work with you to improve your CV, and will also give you an opportunity for ‘question time’ where you can ask any questions you may have about the presentation or content of your curriculum vitae.

ASPIRING LEADERS **NEW**
Overview:
This new leadership development program is designed for those who are currently in HEO5-HEO6 (self managed/project officer type) positions and who wish to prepare themselves for the next leadership/management position or promotion. The program consisting of 4 half day sessions conducted over a four month period, with a month between each session for participants to complete development activities to increase self knowledge, increase trust in themselves and their capacity to extend themselves and take on the new.
The four sessions are designed to strengthen the participant’s personal and professional foundation and give practical skills to prepare them for the next level of leadership/management.
Session 1: Preparing Yourself to Lead… strengthening your personal
foundation. Self and Professional development for leadership/ management
This session will explore the skills, strengths and qualities needed to
be an effective leader in the Higher Education Sector today and participants
own unique combination of skills and qualities, values, achievements and
beliefs to prepare them to lead.
Session 2: Confidence, Making Decisions, Autonomy, Stepping Up and
Managing Up!
Building on from session one, participants will explore how to trust
themselves and their unique personal foundation to make decisions, act with
autonomy and develop more confident in their ability, manage themselves and
manage up.
Session 3: Time management, self management, career management,
becoming politically savvy!
Session three will give participants the opportunity to explore possible
future career options for them, understand organisational politics and how
to manage themselves and their time to make the next career move a reality!
Session 4: Maintaining a life, whilst progressing your career!
Our lives can become out of balance when single mindedly pursuing a
career. This last session will look at the whole person, what is really
important in all aspects of the participant’s life and how looking after the
“whole self” can actually assist one in winning that next promotion!

This program is a complete guide to preparing for effective meetings for staff members in the role of Executive Officer. This workshop will focus on providing guidance to staff who may be new to executive officer duties or feel they could benefit from a ‘refresher’ on the subject.

Overview:
Conflict is an inevitable part of our working lives and the challenge for managers is not only to continually hone their own conflict management skills, but also to coach staff in handling conflict effectively as a key workplace skill.
