The Quick Guide to Starting Research @ UniSA will help you embark on your research career at UniSA by providing information about how to source grant funding, important University contacts in the research area, as well as legal and contractual information.
Helping Research Happen
Staff in Research and Innovation Services operate with the goal of helping research happen. Research and Innovation Services (RIS) has a role in:
- research policy implementation and interpretation
- management and administration of research grants and fellowships
- development of research within the University
- encouragement and facilitation of research activity
- management and administration of research degrees and scholarships
- collection, maintenance and provision of research and consultancy information
- monitoring ethical practice in research
- provision of contract advice.
The Library provides an
extensive range of value added services to support university staff and
postgraduate students with their research.
Academic Library Services teams offer group sessions and individual
consultations for a range of services, including:
- Strategies for Successful Research: finding and managing information series of on-campus and online workshops
- tailored training sessions for research groups
- assistance with using electronic information resources in your area of specialisation
- identification of resources to support your research activities
- assistance finding journals in which to publish
- advice on locating journal impact factors and citation data
assisting you to keep up to date in your subject area
The Library also supports the University's research initiatives with:
- arrow@UniSA an online repository where all UniSA Researchers can deposit their theses and other publications
- The ERA Resources page which has information about how to obtain bibliometric measures such as journal impact factors and citation analysis
The services provided by the Library complement those available from
Research and Innovation Services and
Learning and Teaching Unit.
Supporting researchers
Early career researchers
The Early Career Researcher Development Program is
offered annually to academic staff in the early stages of their research
careers who are seeking opportunities for strategic career planning and
skill development in the area of academic research.
Supported researcher scheme
The Supported
Researchers Scheme provides recognition and incentive to staff who have
met defined research performance criteria in attracting research grants,
publishing research outputs and supervising higher degree research
completions, and who contribute substantially to the University’s
performance in the Institutional Grants Scheme.
Australian Competitive Grant schemes
The University has committed resources to build success in Australian
Competitive Grants. A coordinated series of incentive and
development schemes,
are offered to support academic staff through all stages of the grant
preparation, submission and review process.
Developing research leaders
As part of our active commitment to building our research profile and
engagement, UniSA has embarked on Research Leadership
Development Program to develop our next generation of research leaders.
Research Education Support Activities (RESA)
RESA support
HDR students and supervisors by providing a range of information, resources,
and training in research education.
Teaching awards
UniSA recognises and rewards good teaching through various
schemes. UniSA awards are a prestigious institutional acknowledgement of
teaching excellence.
Division and Institute activities
Professional Development initiatives and support are also provided by the
academic Divisions and Research Institutes and by many Schools, Research
Groups, and Centres. Staff should consult their local Divisional and
Research Institute websites for further details on what is offered.
Other continuing professional development
The
Professional Experience Program (PEP) provides for a period of time
release for professional development to the mutual benefit of the staff
member and the University.
Financial Support for approved study is available according to the
Financial Support for Academic Staff Guidelines.
