Leadership and Management

Supervising staff

One of the keys to success for any organisation is the effective management and supervision of staff. Human Resources Learning and Development provide a number of activities and resources to build individual and organisational capability in this area.

The Art of Supervision is an action learning toolkit to help staff build their skills in the people management function of the role. While the toolkit is designed primarily for staff new to supervisor roles, more experienced supervisors will find sections of the toolkit beneficial for references and tips.

The Art of Supervision toolkit is complemented by the Supervisor Series workshops in the WorkSmart program which provides staff with the opportunity to explore issues in more depth through discussion with peers and experienced practitioners.

Supervisors have a range of responsibilities and the Supervising staff @ UniSA: A Quick Guide for Professional staff is a useful starting point for new supervisors to understand the scope of their responsibilities.

Leadership Dimensions

The Leadership Dimensions forums and workshops provide opportunity for development and networking for senior professional staff at UniSA. These forums combine presentations by experts with facilitated discussion, designed to explore a range of contemporary leadership and management issues. The activities are open to senior professional staff (typically staff at level 7/8 and above) with responsibility for leading and managing a team or whose role involves influencing the work of other staff or teams.

Career management skills

In today's world of work the term 'career' is seen as a continuous process of learning and development. Having a career doesn’t just mean climbing up the career ladder to increasing responsibility. It can also mean shifting the focus of your work into new areas at the same level, developing new skills, expanding your current skills through development and on-the-job assignments, or shifting to a new career path.

The Career Development program will assist you to take an active role in your ongoing career development and to identify research and maintain or gain employment that provides you with a high level of job satisfaction.
