Collaborations

students assessing the stresses within concreteHistorically SMAG has, and continues to, draw upon the expertise found amongst the various research groups and disciplines, particularly within the University of South Australia.

Each related group strengthens the performance ability of SMAG to industry and are consulted appropriately in each project.

Advanced Manufacturing

In 2003 the Director of UniSA's Metallurgy Group agreed to join forces with SMAG, extending the group's expertise and capabilities particularly in the areas of:

Ancon Beton / Adelaide Brighton Cement

Ancon Test Consult  has been operational at UniSA Civil Engineering laboratories since March 2003. The combined expertise of Ancon Beton and Adelaide Brighton Cement serve to strengthen our service to industry, particularly in the field of concrete technology. The partnership has led to greater research and development projects, which involve evaluation on the strong floor of full scale structural members and under various actions.

Sustainable Environment Research Group

The School of Natural and Built Environment within UniSA means SMAG staff have the opportunity to form new interdisciplinary connections which result in innovative ideas and new perspectives.

Collaboration with the Sustainable Environment Research Group (SERG) staff has played a vital role in the Rail CRC project, and is a great example of using both civil engineering and environmental awareness to implement best practice for all.

The Geology Unit

The experienced team of geologists who offer the Bachelor of Applied Science (Applied Geology) (Honours) program at UniSA provide a backup in geology research areas.

Staff have specialist training and experience in the application of geology and/or geophysics in any one of the following areas:

Urban Water Resources Centre

Water, soils and structures interact, so while the water conservation led research of UniSA's Urban Water Research Centre (UWRC) is of national interest, how it is implemented can impact on buildings.

Accordingly SMAG and UWRC have collaborated on research projects into on-site water detention schemes.

The UWRC has consolidated with the newly established water research centre, SA Water Centre for Water Science and Systems, within the Division of Information Technology, Engineering and the Environment at the Mawson Lakes campus. This has brought a team of highly skilled researchers with varied research industry links.  This will increase the profile research in the field of water research.
