Why do International Studies at UniSA? Picture of New York

International Studies at UniSA prepares graduates for careers in a multicultural society and a globalised economy. The program will develop your capacity for critical analysis of world politics and international relations, and provides practical experiential learning, preparing you to be a successful professional practitioner.

Our Distinctive Focus is:

HUMAN

SECURITY
IDENTITIES
RIGHTS
DEVELOPMENT

Human security focuses on security of people from physical attack or coercion, replacement of violent conflict by resolution of disputes through accountable political processes, ecologically sustainable development, and prevention of hunger, disease, repression and fear.

Human identities examines the political implications of socially contested construction and transmission of individual and collective identities, including age, class, gender, ethnic, national, racial, regional, and religious identities and stereotypes, and perceptions of affinities and threats.

Human rights recognise the individual and collective entitlement of people to universal civil, political and social rights, above sovereign state actors in the international system, and communitarian or other claims to restrict rights on cultural or ideological grounds.

Human development focuses on providing people with an ecologically sustainable decent standard of living, a long and healthy life, and knowledge.
