About the Centre
With
emphasis on developing and promoting systems and technologies which contribute
to climate change mitigation and adaption, the Sustainable
Energy Centre focuses on energy
demand, side management, and renewable energy applications.
Our goals are wide-ranging and include:
- raising the profile of energy technology in the community,
- providing independent consultancy and testing facilities to the Australian Energy Industry and
- developing, through collaboration with industry, government and other research bodies, products, processes, practises, services and designs which improve energy efficiency, promote the use of renewable energy, and minimise environmental impacts
The Centre undertakes industry focused research and development, in particular in the areas of solar energy application and energy management. It also provides independent consultancy, testing and expert advice across the energy sector. Products we have developed and taken to commercialization include a roof-integrated solar heating system, a new generation of solar lights, and methodologies for monitoring energy use in housing developments.
SEC researchers have established a reputation for applied and innovative research across a broad range of sustainable energy applications. Current key areas of research include:
- Thermal Energy Storage
- Solar Heating and Cooling
- Energy use in Housing
- Alternative fuels and vehicles
- Wind and Water energy
Our expertise in the sustainable energy area is further being implement through
- The Regional Sustainability Centre at Whyalla
- Sustainable Energy Industry Support Centre
- Intelligent Grid Cluster
