Evaluation of energy use and Greenhouse emission in housing developments
The Mawson Lakes AGO Project represents the commitment from the Mawson
Lakes Developers, ETSA Utilities and Origin Energy to encourage new home
builders to better design their homes by taking into account such aspects
as:- orientation of living areas
- window size and facing direction
- floor and window coverings
- energy requirements of major appliances
All new home builders in the Mawson Lakes Development have been asked to complete the following scoresheet and questionnaire.
ETSA Utilities and Origin Energy maintain monitoring equipment which is used to record the energy consumption of large groups of houses within Mawson Lakes. The SEC also installed monitoring equipment in six existing Mawson Lakes homes to record energy usage over a 12 month period.
The work undertaken in this project is currently ongoing as part of a State Energy Research Advisory Committee (SENRAC) funded program and monitoring has also been expanded to cover a large group of houses in the Northgate housing development.
One significant outcome of the work conducted at Mawson Lakes is that the use of Solar Water Heaters is now mandatory in all new homes.
