Science at the Lakes Friday 15 August 2008

Science at the Lakes (SATL) 2008 was held at the University of South Australia Mawson Lakes Campus Friday 15th August 2008.  Students attending were in year levels 4-10 with registrations received by 1363 students from 37 schools, an additional  eight schools than had registered for the 2007 event - three from country South Australia.  

With some 31 activities and 2 displays students received a fun and interactive day based around Science.  From Maths Toy Box, a mawson lakes sustainability bus tour, wetland tours, science shows, physics for primary students and racing robots, there was something for everyone to enjoy.  

The sixth annual event attracted schools from as far as Southern Yorke Peninsula and Mt Barker as well as engaging local northern area schools Parafield Gardens R-7, Salisbury East High School,  St Martins Catholic Primary and of course Mawson Lakes School.  For the first time 3 x travel grants were issued to regional schools enabling participation from Ramco Primary School, Nurioopta Primary School, Ramco Primary School and a cluster of schools from the Southern Yorke Peninsula.   

The event received excellent feedback from all involved and was an enjoyable day to inspire students about science.
