OneSteel Scholarship 2007-2009
OneSteel Whyalla Steelworks plays a significant role in the Whyalla regional community.
The OneSteel Scholarship 2007-2009 will be awarded to a resident, or recent resident, of Whyalla who is commencing full time studies with UniSA in 2007, in targeted areas related to the OneSteel Whyalla operations. Applicants must be able to show a relationship between their university studies and the OneSteel Whyalla Steelworks, and demonstrate financial need.
Value: The successful recipient will receive $3,000 per year for a three year period of full time study, subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Vacation Research Bursary Program
The Centre for Rural Health and Community Development (CRHaCD) is a UniSA funded research centre and a joint venture between the UniSA Centre for Regional Engagement (CRE) and the Spencer Gulf Rural Health School (SGRHS). It is offering up to four bursaries to encourage students to gain some research experience working with established researchers at the Whyalla campus of UniSA during the summer vacation.
The bursaries provide an opportunity for
students of health and related disciplines (e.g. Social Work) to live and
work in the country for an extended period during the summer vacation.
Students will work as part of research teams on existing research projects
underway at the Whyalla campus. CRHaCD areas of interest include population
and public health, Aboriginal health, health program evaluation, community
development (health) social care and palliative care. Bursaries will be
offered for a minimum of four weeks between November and February.
Undergraduate students or students in Graduate Entry programs offered by the
UniSA division of Health Sciences or studying nursing in Whyalla are
eligible to apply.
Conditions and Criteria:
- Undergraduate students or students in Graduate Entry programs in health and related disciplines (eg social work). From any of the SA universities will be eligible.
- Undergraduate students must have completed the second year of their undergraduate program.
- Applicants must have a demonstrated interest in research.
- Applicants must be Australian Citizens or permanent residents of Australia.
- The bursary will not be offered if there are no suitable applicants.
Value: The bursary provides a travel subsidy of up
to $150 for bus fare or own vehicle fuel. Furnished accommodation will
be provided for the entire stay at no cost to students. Students will
also receive a living allowance of $350.00 per week for the duration of
the placement.
The SGRHS will meet all costs associated with the specific project
including project travel expenses and costs associated with other
directed activities (e.g. cultural awareness field trips).

Spencer
Gulf Rural Health School (SGRHS) Honours Research Bursaries
SGRHS is offering four honours Bursaries to encourage research on topics related to rural, regional or remote health or Aboriginal health.
To be eligible to apply for the scholarships, students must:
- be citizens or permanent residents of Australia
- be enrolled as a full time student in an Honours Program within the Division of Health Sciences at the University of South Australia, including Whyalla campus
- be undertaking a research project with a regional/rural/remote health or Aboriginal health focus undertake some field work/data collection outside of metropolitan Adelaide; and
- be supervised by at least one member of the SGRHS of Whyalla campus academic staff who may act as a principal or co-supervisor
Applicants will be assessed on academic merit. Bursary will not be offered if there are no suitable applicants.
Each scholarship will provide:
- $4,000 for the year
- free accommodation for field work, if required
- up to two return economy bus fares for Adelaide or other SA town to the project town; and
- up to $200 for project sundries (project materials, travel and costs) including printing of project report.
Recipients are required to:
- submit a copy of their thesis to SGRHS
- complete an evaluation at the conclusion of the project
- deliver a seminar to the staff of SGRHS at the conclusion of the project; and
- will be encouraged to disseminate the results of their project in a peer reviewed journal or at a relevant scientific or professional meeting
Value: $4,000 for the year plus assistance with travel, accommodation and project costs
