AME Merit Scholarship

The School of Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering will offer up to 4 scholarships to assist Year 12 students pursuing a career in mechanical engineering.
Students must remain enrolled in one of the following program's in order to be eligible for and retain this Scholarship;

Scholarship for continuing studentsThe Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) Research and Development Scholarship

One scholarship will be awarded annually to students undertaking studies either in the Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics or Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering) program. The scholarship is provided to encourage undergraduate research in the field of Australian building regulations. The research must form a major component of the degree, such as research project, thesis or dissertation.

Applicants are required to submit their proposal to Associate Professor George Zillante who will forward them to ABCB for assessment.

Scholarship for new studentsBAE Systems Australia Scholarship

The scholarships are supported by the following benefactors: BAE Systems, and Saab Systems. 

Two scholarships are offered for students wishing to undertake the Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Systems) and associated double degrees. The scholarships normally pay $1,500 for each year of the program. To be considered for a scholarship‚ students must be accepted into the Bachelor of Engineering program (Computer Systems) stream. Selected students will be sent an application form after the enrolment period. Selection of the scholarship holders is based on SACE and other academic results and personal attributes.

Badge SA Scholarship

The Badge SA Scholarship is available to a student who is enrolled full-time in the second year of the Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics degree program.

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents and submit a personal written statement (min 500 words) detailing their career objectives and how the scholarship will assist them.

The recipient will be selected on the basis of academic merit (GPA), a personal written statement, character references and performance at an interview. The recipient may be offered the opportunity to undertake placements during their program and paid casual work experience during the university holidays.

The scholarship may not be held in conjunction with another scholarship in the School of Natural and Built Environments during the scholarship term. Continuance of the scholarship is subject to satisfactory academic performance.

Scholarship for continuing studentsBarbara Hardy Honours Scholarship

The Barbara Hardy Honours Scholarship is available to Honours students who are studying full-time in the Bachelor of Sustainable Environments (Honours) program in the School of Natural and Built Environments.

Eligible applicants must be undertaking research in an area of interest to the Barbara Hardy Centre, which is focussed on the sustainability of cities, the conservation of biodiversity and the maintenance of the natural processes that sustain life. The scholarship funds are to be used by the recipient for research costs and will be paid into their Personal Development Account.

Scholarship applicants must: be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, provide a personal statement, and have a key member of the Barbara Hardy Centre as their nominated supervisor. Preference will be given to applicants who identify as an Equity student, as recognised by the University. The personal statement (250 words) must provide a description of the research project and the significance of the thesis topic to the Barbara Hardy Centre.

Value: $1,000. Payment will be made after the Study Period 2 census date.

Scholarship for new studentsBuilt Environs Scholarships

Up to two Built Environs Scholarships valued between $3000 and $7000 each will be awarded to students in their third year of the Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics program at the discretion of Built Environs. Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic merit determined by Grade Point Average (GPA), a personal written statement demonstrating leadership potential, communication skills and problem solving aptitude, and performance at an interview.

Female students are encouraged to apply.

Value: $3000 to $7000 payable over two years in two instalments in the third year and two instalments in the fourth year, subject to satisfactory academic performance.
Recipients will also be given the opportunity to undertake paid work experience.

Scholarship for continuing studentsBusiness Information Systems Cooperative Program Scholarships

These scholarships are awarded to every student accepted into the Business Information Systems (BIS) Program who completes the requirements of the award of a Master of Business Information Systems degree. The value of the scholarship is $4,500 per half-year up to a maximum of $18,000, and is paid in fortnightly instalments.

The BIS Program is available to those students who will have completed at least the first 2 years of a relevant undergraduate degree. There is considerable flexibility to devise appropriate study plans for students from a variety of programs.

Applicants must have a Grade Point Average of a credit or higher in their university studies and must be prepared to study full-time.

It is desirable that applicants have undertaken one or more business courses and have some prior knowledge of programming, systems analysis and database design.

Applicants are interviewed by a selection panel that assesses the following skills:

CIS Externally Funded Vacation Grant

The Grants are available to provide an introduction to research within the Advanced Computing Research Centre for high achieving students enrolled on a full-time basis (or part-time equivalent) in the second or subsequent years of a Bachelor program in the School of Computer and Information Science. The grants will be awarded to students on the basis of high achievement and academic merit. Grant holders will be chosen by a selection panel and advised of the grant by email..

Value: Up to $6,000 for a 12 week period or pro rata for shorter periods as agreed by the selection panel.

The Codan Engineering Transition Grant will assist an engineering student in the transition to tertiary education. The grant is available to a high achieving full-time student who is commencing the first year of a Bachelor of Engineering, or associated double degree program, at UniSA.

The grant will be awarded on the basis of academic merit (TER) and financial disadvantage. Preference may be given to a student undertaking a Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Systems), (Electrical and Mechatronic), (Electronics and Communication) or (Networking and Communications) or associated double degree program.

Applicants must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. The grant will provide a total of $2,500 to assist with educational costs incurred by the recipient in the transition to tertiary education, and will be paid in a single instalment after the SP2 census date.

Value: $2,500 (To be paid in a single instalment after the SP2 census date.)

Codan Engineering Excellence Scholarship

The Codan Engineering Excellence Scholarship assists a student who is studying one of the following Bachelor of Engineering programs: Computer Systems, Electrical and Mechatronic, Electronics and Communication, Networking and Communications, Optical and Electronic, and associated double degrees.

The scholarship will be awarded to a fourth year (or fifth year of a double degree) or Honours student who is studying full-time (equivalent to at least 27 units in their final year) and will complete their program in the year they receive the scholarship.

Applicants must submit a written statement detailing their career objectives and how the scholarship will assist in achieving their goals. The scholarship may not be held in conjunction with any other scholarship from the School of Electrical and Information Engineering during the scholarship term.

The recipient must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident and preference may be given to students from South Australia. Recipients will be assessed on the basis of academic merit (GPA 5.5), a short written personal statement and performance at an interview.

Scholarship for continuing studentsCSC Australia Software Engineering Scholarship

CSC Australia will award annually one scholarship to a student enrolled on a full time basis (or part time equivalent) in the third year of the Bachelor of Software Engineering (LBSG) program.

The scholarship will be awarded on basis of outstanding academic achievement and merit and will be available for the standard full time duration (or part time equivalent) of the program. The recipient must be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia.

Eligible students will be invited to submit an application and short-listed applicants will be interviewed by the selection panel.

Applicants will need to demonstrate outstanding academic achievement during the first two years of the program and strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

The scholarship may be held in conjunction with other scholarships with the exception of scholarships offered by the School of Computer and Information Science. The scholarship will not be offered if there are no suitable applicants.

Value: $3,000 in 2 $1,500 instalments made after census date in the third and fourth years of the program

Closing date: second Wednesday in February each year.

The Defence Scholarship - Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology (DFEEST)

The Defence Scholarship has been designed by DFEEST to ensure long-term supply of quality skills and a workforce capable of meeting future needs of defence and defence industry in South Australia. The scholarship provides financial assistance towards the cost of the honours program and is available for students undertaking a defence-related honours degree or degree with honours at the University of South Australia, the University of Adelaide or Flinders University.

Students must be Australian citizens and eligible for admission to an honours degree or degree with honours at one of the three universities. The scholarship will be awarded based on academic merit as determined by the Grade Point Average (GPA) of admission to the honours program. The student's honours study must be defence related within a number of Broad Fields of Education as determined by DFEEST. The scholarship must be taken up in the year in which it is offered, acceptance of the scholarship cannot be deferred.

Online applications open once a year and can be lodged via the myUniSA Student Portal. Clicking on my Studies will display a 'my Scholarships' link on the right hand side of the page. This link will take students to the 'my Scholarships' homepage. Eligible applicants' information will be forwarded to DFEEST, who will select the final recipients. Successful recipients will be notified by the UniSA Scholarships Office.

Value: Each scholarship is for $5,000 for one year of full time defence-related honours study, payable in two instalments of $2,500 after Study Period 2 and Study Period 5 census dates, subject to satisfactory academic progress and full-time load.

Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure Scholarship in Civil Engineering

The SA Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure Scholarship in Civil Engineering is available to students who are commencing a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or associated specialisation programs.

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, and enrolled full-time. Applicants will be required to submit a resume and a personal written statement outlining their future in engineering and how the scholarship will be of benefit to them in achieving this. Applicants must have an interest in transport and have the ability to act as a positive ambassador for the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI).

Nominations are considered by a selection panel consisting of a representative(s) from DPTI  and nominees from the School of Natural and Built Environments at the University of South Australia.

Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic merit (ATAR), a personal written statement (min 500 words) and performance at an interview.

Value: $10,800 (paid in yearly instalments depending on the duration of the degree program)

Up to three High Achiever Scholarship valued at $5,000 each per year will be awarded to School Leavers with TER of 90 or above (exclusive of bonus points) who meet specified equity criteria and are enrolled full-time in one of the following undergraduate degree programs in the Division of Information Technology, Engineering and the Environment at Mawson Lakes Campus:

The scholarships are available to School Leavers who have not previously commenced higher education and who meet low socio-economic status criterion. Students must be able to substantiate claims of financial hardship. Recipients must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Scholarship for new studentsDSTO Engineering and Information Technology Working Links Awards

Six DSTO scholarships each to the value of $2000 will be awarded annually to students enrolled in Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Systems), (Electronics and Communication), (Networking and Communications), (Electrical and Mechatronics) or (Optical and Electronic) program or associated double degrees. The scholarships will be awarded to students on the basis of high achievement and academic merit and will be available for the standard full-time duration or part-time equivalent of the first year of the program. The candidates shall be identified by the academic staff of the School of Electrical and Information Engineering and recommendations for the award made to DSTO Information Science Laboratory.

Value:  $2,000 one off payment

The George Alexander Foundation Mechanical Engineering Scholarship

The George Alexander Foundation was established by Mr Alexander AM in 1972 to provide grants for public charitable purposes in Australia. Reflecting the Founder's special interests, The George Alexander Foundation has an emphasis to help talented young people who have demonstrated academic ability, particularly those from rural and regional communities, for whom scholarships would make a significant contribution to achieving their educational goals.

The George Alexander Foundation Mechanical Engineering Scholarship was established in 2008 and will be available annually for undergraduate applicant in the School of Advanced Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering (AME) who are from regional/remote areas who undertakes Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical), or Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Mechatronics) or Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Sustainability), or Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Nanotechnology) or Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical and Advanced Manufacturing) program.

Applicants must remain enrolled in the program on a full time basis and ensure they meet minimum GPA of 4.5 per study period for the life of the program.

The successful applicant will receive $2,000 per year over the four years of their degree, plus an additional $2,000 if they undertake their 12 weeks industry experience within the Agricultural Machinery Research and Design Centre.

Scholarship for new studentsHypatia Scholarship for Mathematically Gifted Women

The School of Mathematics and Statistics scholarships to full-time female students who enrol in either the Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences or the Bachelor of Quantitative Finance.

Awarded on academic merit, the scholarships are equivalent to: A$5000.00 in cash (or contribution towards student tuition fees) for the first year of study, the provision of shared personal office space and a personal computer within the School.

Applicants should submit their Year 12 record, a letter of recommendation from their Mathematics teachers and a short essay on why the program suits their career goals.

Value: $5,000 in cash or in contribution towards student fees and continued support for recipients through the duration of the program

A Scholarship will be awarded annually on the basis of academic excellence to an International student, commencing the first year of the Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences program.

 A Scholarship will be awarded annually on the basis of academic excellence to an International student, commencing the first year of the Bachelor of Quantitative Finance program. Scholarship for new studentsLockheed Martin Engineering Transition Grant

The Lockheed Martin Engineering Transition Grant will assist an engineering student in the transition to tertiary education. The grant is available to a high achieving full-time student who is commencing the first year of a Bachelor of Engineering, or associated double degree program, at UniSA.
The grant will be awarded on the basis of academic merit (TER) and financial disadvantage. Preference may be given to a student undertaking a Bachelor of Engineering (Computer Systems), (Electrical and Mechatronic), (Electronics and Communication) or (Networking and Communications) or associated double degree program.
Applicants must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. The grant will provide a total of $2,500 to assist with educational costs incurred by the recipient in the transition to tertiary education, and will be paid in a single instalment after the SP2 census date.

Value: $2,500 (To be paid in a single instalment after the SP2 census date.)

Scholarship for new studentsScholarship for international studentsNBE Scholarship for International Students (Civil Engineering)

The Civil engineering discipline within the School of Natural and Built Environments will award one International Scholarship each year, to a commencing Fee Paying Overseas Student. Students must be enrolled in the Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or associated specialisation degrees, within the School of Natural and Built Environments.

The scholarship is specifically intended for a student entering the degree with 2 years of credit for prior study (usually a 3 year Diploma, or 2 years of a degree from an international institution), as this is the largest market source of international students in civil engineering. The scholarship will be awarded to the applicant with the highest GPA from their previous study, who meets all criteria.

First preference will go to the graduate from either the INTI group of colleges in Malaysia, Institut Eksekutif (Malaysia), Laila Taib College (Malaysia) or NJUT in China (provided the applicant meets the minimum GPA criteria), due to the particular relationship that the civil engineering discipline has with these institutions.

Value: The Scholarship is valued at $3,000.

 The scholarship is available to students commencing the Bachelor of Engineering program in one of the following streams: Computer Systems; Electrical and Mechatronic Engineering; Electronics and Communications; Networking and Communications and Optical and Electronic Engineering or associated double degrees.

The scholarship value awarded annually is $6,000 for the duration of the program. Payment will be made after census date of Study Period 2.

The SA Water Ada Scholarship in Information and Communications Technology and Placement will be awarded to female students studying full-time in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate Bachelor degree program within the School of Computer and Information Science.

To be eligible for this scholarship applicants must be female and be an Australian citizens or permanent residents. Applicants must provide a personal written statement addressing their career goals in the field of information and communications technology and how the scholarship will be of benefit to them in achieving their goals. Applicants must have an interest in the SA Water Graduate Program, be willing to attend functions at SA Water and have the ability to be a positive ambassador for SA Water.

Selection will be based on a personal written statement, academic merit and an interview. To remain eligible for the scholarship recipients must complete a minimum of 36 units per year for the life of the scholarship and maintain a credit average (GPA 5).

Scholarship recipients will be paid employment over the summer vacation period whilst they hold the scholarship for which they will be paid up to $2,500 (based on hours worked x hourly rate). Should they wish, recipients will have this opportunity for each year of their schoalrship.

Value: Up to$20,000 in total equating to $2,500 per year (paid in two instalments of $1,250 after the Study Period 2 and Study Period 5 census dates) and up to $2,500 paid employment each year.

SA Water Shahid Talpur Memorial Grant

The SA Water Shahid Talpur Memorial Grant has been established in memory of Shahid Talpur, a popular and knowledgeable Network Analyst who represented the SA Water Information Systems team with passion and a genuine love of his job. Shahid lost his life in a road accident in June 2011 and is survived by his wife and three daughters. Shahid's excellent technical skills and commitment to his team's success has provided the basis of this grant in his memory.

The grant will be awarded to a student studying full-time in 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate Bachelor degree program within the School of Computer and Information Science.

To be eligible for the grant, applicants must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Applicants must provide a personal written statement (max 500 words) addressing their career goals in the field of information and communications technology; how the grant will be of benefit to them in achieving their goals; and outlining their ability to act as positive ambassador for SA Water.

The Scholarships are available to provide an introduction to research within the Advanced Computing Research Centre for high achieving students enrolled on a full-time basis (or part-time equivalent) in the second or subsequent years of an undergraduate Bachelor degree program in the School of Computer and Information Science. The Scholarships will be awarded to students on the basis of high achievement and academic merit. The School will invite applications for its CIS Summer Vacation Scholarship scheme in mid study period 2 each year.  The School of Computer and Information Science (CIS) will offer two Overseas Travel Grants for one study period of attendance at an overseas university. The grants will be awarded annually to selected students entering into the second or third year of a Bachelor program within the School. The overseas universities will be chosen from those with whom the School of Computer and Information Science has organised such a program. The School will select courses from participating universities to ensure content is equivalent to courses offered by CIS and to provide students with the best opportunity to succeed. Successful candidates will gain exposure to international information and communications technology practices and will have the opportunity to broaden their experiences prior to completing the final year of their program with the School. The grants will include economy airfares and accommodation expenses to the value of $2500. Recipients must be Australian Citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

The student with the highest Tertiary Entrance Rank of at least 90 will receive an entrance grant of $2,000. The grants are awarded automatically after the census date of March 31, and thus no formal application is required.
Students should have completed year 12 studies within the last two years.

The School of Mathematics and Statistics awards grants to full-time new students of sufficient academic merit who enrol in the first year of the Bachelor of Mathematical Sciences or the Bachelor of Quantitative Finance.

The School of Mathematics and Statistics will annually award a maximum of ten grants to commencing students enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Applied Science (Honours) (Industrial and Applied Mathematics) (LHMS) program.

Students will receive an entrance grant of $5,000. The grants are awarded automatically upon enrolment and thus no formal application is required. Payment will be made in two instalments after the study period 2 and 5 census dates.

Scholarship for continuing studentsSchool of Mathematics and Statistics Vacation Scholarship

Scholarships are available to local and international students to provide an introduction to research within the School of Mathematics and Statistics. The scholarships will be awarded to high achieving students enrolled full-time (or part-time equivalent) in either the third or fourth year of an undergraduate Bachelor degree in mathematics or statistics, or equivalent program. Second year undergraduate students with exceptional mathematical ability may also be considered.

Value: $2,100 - $4,200 (based on EFT payments of AU$350.00 per week over a six-to-twelve week period (or pro-rata) during the recipient's key vacation period).

School of Natural and Built Environments International Scholarships

The School of Natural and Built Environments will award up to eight International Scholarships each year, to commencing Fee Paying Overseas Students. Students must be enrolled in an undergraduate degree or postgraduate coursework program, within the School of Natural and Built Environments.

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence to outstanding students.

Students will be selected on academic merit and are expected to maintain satisfactory performance throughout the duration of their degree program (as defined in University policy).

Scholarship for new studentsSylvia Birdseye Undergraduate Scholarship for Women

To mark the Women's Suffrage Centenary in 1994, Transport SA established a scholarship for women intending to pursue a program in civil engineering at the University of South Australia. The scholarship is awarded annually.

Applications are open to women who are Australian citizens or permanent residents, and who are enrolled full-time in the the Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or associated specialisation programs. Applicants will be required to submit a resume and a personal written statement outlining their future in engineering and how the scholarship will be of benefit to them in achieving this. Applicants must have an interest in transport and have the ability to act as a positive ambassador.

Nominations are considered by a selection panel consisting of a representative(s) from the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) and nominees from the School of Natural and Built Environments at the University of South Australia.

Recipients will be selected on the basis of academic merit (ATAR), a personal written statement (min 500 words) and performance at an interview.

Value:  $10,800 in total. ($2,700 per annum). Continuation of the scholarship each year will depend on continued enrolment and satisfactory achievement in the Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) or associated specialisation programs at the University of South Australia. Vacation employment with DPTI will be offered at the end of each academic year.

Surveying SA Laptop Grant

In 2009, Surveying SA was formed with representatives from the Surveyors Board of South Australia (SBSA) Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute (SSSI), Spatial Industries Business Association (SIBA) and the University of South Australia (UniSA) with the aim of increasing the number of Licensed Surveyors in South Australia and ensuring the continuity of surveying tertiary studies in the State.

The Surveying SA Laptop Grants have been established to assist five commencing UniSA students by providing them with $1,000 to purchase a new laptop.

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents. In 2012 to be eligible for the grant applicants must be be enrolled full-time in the first year of the Bachelor of Geospatial Science degree program.

Applicants must provide a personal written statement detailing their interest in spatial science, their career objectives and how the scholarship will assist in achieving their goals.

Applicants may be given special consideration if they can demonstrate in their written statement: academic merit, financial disadvantage or that they have a rural background. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview.

Recipients of the Surveying SA Laptop Grants will be given preference in future years if they enrol in the Master of Surveying and apply for the Surveying SA Scholarship.

Value: $1,000 to purchase a new laptop.

Vice Chancellor's Scholarships in Advanced Materials

Up to twenty Vice Chancellor's Scholarships in Advanced Materials valued at $5,000 each per year will be awarded to School Leavers with an ATAR of 90 or above (exclusive of bonus points) who are enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Science (Advanced Materials). Recipients must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident.

Successful applicants will receive $5,000 per year for the duration of their program, subject to maintaining a minimum GPA of 4.5.

The scholarship may not be held in conjunction with any other scholarship within the Division.
