Scholarship for continuing studentsAdelaide Radiotherapy Centre Adam Shillingford Scholarship

This scholarship was established as a memorial to Adam Shillingford. Adam was a Radiation Therapist who was committed to the clinical education of students and modelled professional skills and conduct to an exemplary level. Two scholarships are offered annually to one second year and one third year full-time student enrolled in the Radiation Therapy strand of the Bachelor of Medical Radiation.  The scholarships are awarded on the basis of the applicant’s academic merit and an interview.

Scholarship for indigenous studentsScholarship for continuing studentsGladys Elphick Memorial Scholarship

Gladys Elphick MBE was a highly respected member of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of South Australia. She was particularly active in the development of services in the areas of lobbying which culminated in the establishment of the first Aboriginal community controlled health service in the Adelaide region, which continues on today in the form of Nunkuwarrin Yunti of SA Inc. An anonymous donor has provided a bequest to the University of South Australia, School of Health Sciences, to allow a scholarship to be awarded in memory of Gladys Elphick. This bequest has been used to fund a scholarship in support of an Indigenous student undertaking studies within the school, to a total value of $5000.

Immunisation Professional Development Scholarships

Applicants must be eligible to gain entry to the Immunisation Professional Development course and work more than 15 hours per week in the provision of an immunisation service.

All applicants must submit a 100-150 word written statement detailing their experience in Immunisation service delivery and reasons for applying for a scholarship and a reference from a current or previous employer to confirm their details in the written statement.

Scholarship for indigenous studentsScholarship for continuing studentsIndigenous Leaders in Community Health Development Scholarship

This Scholarship is to provide support for up to 3 Indigenous scholars studying the one-year Bachelor of Health Science/Applied Science (Honours) program or the Graduate Certificate in Health Science (Research Methodologies) program at the University of South Australia on a full-time basis leading to entry into a full-time PhD program.

Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis to up to 3 Indigenous students who have achieved a high level of knowledge and skills in the basic public health disciplines of epidemiology, biostatistics, qualitative methods, measures of health outcomes, health promotion theory and practice, public health nutrition, quality improvement and project management as well as a basic understanding of the principles of health economics. Applicants will have a gained a broad understanding of the Indigenous health system in Australia.

Applicants will be ranked on:
• Tertiary Qualifications – Applicants must hold at least an undergraduate degree in a health related discipline;
• The level of experience gained in one or more of the areas listed above;

Applicants must be willing to be enrolled on a full time basis in the one year Bachelor of Health Science/Applied Science (Honours) program or the Graduate Certificate in Health Science (Research Methodologies) program at the University of South Australia.

The Scholarships will not be offered if there are no suitable applicants.

Each scholarship recipient will receive a stipend of $56,750 as well as the cost of fees for the Bachelor of Health Science/Applied Science (Honours) program or the Graduate Certificate in Health Science (Research Methodologies) program.

Scholarship for international studentsInstitute of Vocational Education (Hong Kong) Scholarship

To be awarded annually to a student previously awarded a Higher Diploma of Pharmaceutical Technology from the Institute of Vocational Education (Hong Kong) and now commencing studies (articulating with) the Bachelor of Pharmacy.

The scholarship will be awarded only to students who have previously satisfied the Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) loan and grant scheme.

If there is more than one student in any one entry cohort who have previously satisfied the Institute of Vocational Education (IVE) loan and grant scheme, then the scholarship will be awarded to the student having the more meritorious academic record. The scholarship value will be 25% of fees for the period of study in the Bachelor of Pharmacy provided the students maintain satisfactory progress.

The School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences will award up to twenty three International Undergraduate Scholarships each year, to commencing fee paying Overseas Students.

Students must be enrolled in one of the following Undergraduate Degree Programs to gain one of the scholarships as listed:

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence to outstanding students. Applicants must have attained the necessary entry requirements as outlined in the current University ‘Programs, Fees and Entry Requirements for International Students’ booklet. Scholarships are valued at 25% or 15% of the total program fees, depending on the scholarship awarded.

Students will be selected on merit and are expected to maintain satisfactory performance throughout the duration of their degree program, including Honours (as defined in University policy).

Scholarship for economically disadvantaged studentsScholarship for continuing studentsMargaret E Pank Nursing Scholarship

The Margaret E Pank Scholarship has been established through a gift from Ms Margaret Pank. In 2007, two scholarships will be offered for a two year period for students enrolled full time in the second year of the Bachelor of Nursing program, living in the areas of Salisbury and Playford.

Applicants must provide evidence of financial hardship and a supporting statement with their application demonstrating why they should be awarded the Margaret E Pank Scholarship.  The scholarships will be awarded on financial hardship, academic merit and performance at interview.

Two scholarships will be offered annually to the two 3rd year students in Bachelor of Medical and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology with the highest GPA in the first half of the academic year. To be eligible students must have achieved a GPA of 5.0 or above. The scholarships valued at $1,500 each, will be paid in the second half of the academic year. Scholarships may not be offered if there are insufficient applicants of meritorious standard.

Scholarship for new studentsNursing Year 12 Undergraduate Scholarship

Awarded to the highest ranked year 12 student choosing the Bachelor of Nursing, program offered by the Division of Health Sciences at City East or Whyalla as their first SATAC preference in the January admission period, based on their Tertiary Education Rank (TER).  The scholarship will cover the upfront student contribution amounts over the three years of the Bachelor of Nursing program, provided the recipient maintains satisfactory progress.  The scholarship would be extended to cover the upfront student contribution amounts for scholarship holders electing to continue immediately to the Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) after the completion of their initial Bachelor of Nursing.

Scholarship for continuing studentsRural Vacation Placement Bursary Program

The Spencer Gulf Rural Health School (SGRHS) is offering bursaries for students wishing to undertake project work in Whyalla and surrounding areas during summer vacation period. The bursaries provide an opportunity for Health Sciences students to live and work in the country for an extended period during the summer vacation. Students will undertake project work with academic staff of the SGRHS or with practitioners working in local health services.

Undergraduate students or students in Graduate Entry programs offered by the UniSA Division of Health Sciences or studying nursing in Whyalla are eligible to apply.

Undergraduate students must have completed the second year of their undergraduate program. Applicants must be Australian Citizens or permanent residents of Australia.

The bursary will not be offered if there are no suitable applicants. Students will meet other costs including costs of additional personal travel. Payments to students will be made weekly in arrears to a nominated bank account, organised by SGRHS. Travel costs, accommodation and additional project costs will also be organised through SGRHS.

Value: The bursary provides a travel subsidy of up to $150 for bus fare or own vehicle fuel. Furnished accommodation will be provided for the entire stay at no cost to students. Students will also receive a living allowance of $175.00 per week for the duration of the placement.
The SGRHS will meet all costs associated with the specific project including project travel expenses and costs associated with other directed activities (eg cultural awareness field trips).

Scholarship for continuing studentsSansom Institute Summer Vacation Scholarship

This scholarship is intended to encourage students to gain experience in research and to form links with staff within the Sansom Institute, Adjunct appointments and the Hanson Institute.

Each scholarship will support a student to undertake a 6 week project involving laboratory or pharmacy practice based research. Students may be placed in any Sector of the Sansom Institute or at the Hanson Institute.

The scholarship is open to students who have successfully completed the second year of any undergraduate program offered by the School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences or the Bachelor of Science program at UniSA.

Scholarship for international studentsHELP-HICT International College of Technology

Up to two scholarships are offered to students enrolled in the third year of the Bachelor of Pharmacy programs taught as a twinning program with HELP-HICT International College of Technology.

Up to two scholarships are offered to students enrolled in the fourth year of the Bachelor of Pharmacy programs taught as a twinning program with HELP-HICT International College of Technology.

A maximum of one scholarship will be awarded to the students in the second year of either the Bachelor of Applied Science (Food Science and Nutrition) or the Bachelor of Nutrition and Food Science.

A maximum of one scholarship will be awarded to students in the third year of either the Bachelor of Applied Science (Food Science and Nutrition) or the Bachelor of Nutrition and Food Science.

The scholarships will be awarded on academic merit and are intended to encourage entry into the program, encourage outstanding students, and maintain high academic achievement across courses taught in the program.

St Andrew’s Hospital will fund two scholarships (one in 2007 and one in 2008) for a full time student for their second year and third year of study in the Bachelor of Nursing program. One scholarship will be awarded to a first year student progressing to the second year and third year of the Bachelor of Nursing program in 2007-2008. The second scholarship will be awarded to a first year student progressing to the second and third year of the Bachelor of Nursing program in 2008-2009.
