Scholarship for indigenous studentsScholarship for continuing studentsGladys Elphick Memorial Scholarship

Gladys Elphick MBE was a highly respected member of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community of South Australia. She was particularly active in the development of services in the areas of lobbying which culminated in the establishment of the first Aboriginal community controlled health service in the Adelaide region, which continues on today in the form of Nunkuwarrin Yunti of SA Inc. An anonymous donor has provided a bequest to the University of South Australia, School of Health Sciences, to allow a scholarship to be awarded in memory of Gladys Elphick. This bequest has been used to fund a scholarship in support of an Indigenous student undertaking studies within the school, to a total value of $5000.

Value: $5,000 for the year (once-off payment)

Scholarship for international studentsHICT-HELP International College of Technology

Up to two scholarships are offered to students enrolled in the third year of the Bachelor of Pharmacy programs taught as a twinning program with HELP-HICT International College of Technology.

Up to two scholarships are offered to students enrolled in the fourth year of the Bachelor of Pharmacy programs taught as a twinning program with HICT-HELP International College of Technology.

A maximum of one scholarship will be awarded to the students in the second year of either the Bachelor of Applied Science (Food Science and Nutrition) or the Bachelor of Nutrition and Food Science.

A maximum of one scholarship will be awarded to students in the third year of either the Bachelor of Applied Science (Food Science and Nutrition) or the Bachelor of Nutrition and Food Science.

The scholarships will be awarded on academic merit and are intended to encourage entry into the program, encourage outstanding students, and maintain high academic achievement across courses taught in the program.

Value: A rebate of 25% of the fees payable to HELP-HICT International College of Technology for the year in which the scholarship is awarded

Scholarship for indigenous studentsScholarship for continuing studentsIndigenous Leaders in Community Health Development Scholarship

This Scholarship is to provide support for up to 3 Australian Indigenous scholars studying either the one-year Bachelor of Health Science/Applied Science (Honours) program at the University of South Australia or the Graduate Certificate Health Science (Research Methodologies) at the University of South Australia and/or another agreed prescribed study program incorporating courses at the University of South Australia and from another Australian tertiary institution on a full-time basis leading to entry into a full-time PhD program.

Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis to up to 3 Indigenous students who have achieved a high level of knowledge and skills in the basic public health disciplines of epidemiology, biostatistics, qualitative methods, measures of health outcomes, health promotion theory and practice, public health nutrition, quality improvement and project management as well as a basic understanding of the principles of health economics. Applicants will have a gained a broad understanding of the Indigenous health system in Australia.

Applicants will be ranked on:

Applicants must be willing to be enrolled on a full time basis in the one year Bachelor of Health Science/Applied Science (Honours) program or the Graduate Certificate in Health Science (Research Methodologies) program at the University of South Australia.

The Scholarships will not be offered if there are no suitable applicants.

Each scholarship recipient will receive a stipend of $56,750 as well as the cost of fees for the Bachelor of Health Science/Applied Science (Honours) program or the Graduate Certificate in Health Science (Research Methodologies) program.

Value: $56,750 per scholarship

Scholarship for new studentsScholarship for international studentsInternational Undergraduate Scholarships

The School of Pharmacy and Medical Sciences will award a maximum of two International Undergraduate Scholarships in each Undergraduate Program each year, to commencing Fee Paying Overseas Students.

Students must be enrolled in one of the following Undergraduate Degree Programs to gain one of the scholarships as listed:

Bachelor of Pharmacy
Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine
Bachelor of Nutrition and Food Sciences
Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Bachelor of Medical Sciences

Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence to outstanding students. Applicants must have attained the necessary entry requirements as outlined in the current University 'Programs, Fees and Entry Requirements for International Students' booklet.

Scholarships are valued at 25% of the total program fees, depending on the scholarship awarded.

Students will be selected on merit and are expected to maintain satisfactory performance throughout the duration of their degree program, including, where appropriate, honours (as defined in University policy).

Scholarship for continuing studentsMargaret E Pank Honours Scholarship

The Margaret E Pank Honours Scholarship is available to Nursing or Midwifery students undertaking an Bachelor of Health Science/Applied Science (Honours). Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents.
The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and performance at an interview, and preference may be given to students who can demonstrate financial disadvantage. Applicants must provide a one page written statement with their application outlining their career goals and future plans, and how the scholarship will help them achieve their ambitions. Applicants who are experiencing financial hardship should include details about their financial circumstances in their written statement.

The Margaret E Pank Nursing and Midwifery Study Assistance Scholarship

The Margaret E Pank Nursing and Midwifery Study Assistance Scholarship has been established through a gift from the Pank family. The scholarship will be offered for a two year period for students enrolled full time in the first year of the Bachelor of Nursing or the Bachelor of Midwifery programs.
Applicants must provide evidence of financial hardship and a supporting statement with their application demonstrating why they should be awarded the Scholarship. The Scholarship will be awarded on financial hardship, academic merit and performance at an interview.

Value: $1,000. Recipients will receive a $500 book voucher from Unibooks each year for two years. These vouchers are to be used to purchase textbooks or other study aids for the recipient's program and will be issued at the start of Study Period 5 in the first year and the start of Study Period 2 in the second year.

The Margaret E Pank Scholarship has been established through a gift from Ms Margaret Pank. In 2007, two scholarships will be offered for a two year period for students enrolled full time in the second year of the Bachelor of Nursing program, living in the areas of Salisbury and Playford.

Applicants must provide evidence of financial hardship and a supporting statement with their application demonstrating why they should be awarded the Margaret E Pank Scholarship.  The scholarships will be awarded on financial hardship, academic merit and performance at interview.

Value:  Each recipient will receive $2,000 annually for two years.

Mutual Community Nursing Scholarship

The Mutual Community Nursing Scholarship is available to assist a recent school leaver, who has completed Year 12 in the last two years prior to the scholarship application and, who is commencing full time study in the first year of the Bachelor of Nursing program. The scholarship will be awarded based on academic merit (Tertiary Entrance Rank) and a personal written statement. Applicants must provide a personal statement demonstrating their passion for nursing and why they should receive the scholarship.

Value: $10,500 which equates to 3 payments of $3,500 per year for 3 years.

Six grants valued at $1,000 each are available to 3rd year Bachelor of Nursing students who are studying full time and undertaking 2 x 8 week field placements. Recipients will be selected on academic merit and financial disadvantage. Recipients will be offered the opportunity of paid part-time work with the Nursing Agency of South Australia.

Scholarship for new studentsNursing Year 12 Undergraduate Scholarship

Awarded to the highest ranked year 12 student choosing the Bachelor of Nursing, program offered by the Division of Health Sciences at City East or Whyalla as their first SATAC preference in the January admission period, based on their Tertiary Education Rank (TER).  The scholarship will cover the upfront student contribution amounts over the three years of the Bachelor of Nursing program, provided the recipient maintains satisfactory progress.  The scholarship would be extended to cover the upfront student contribution amounts for scholarship holders electing to continue immediately to the Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) after the completion of their initial Bachelor of Nursing.

Rural Vacation Research Bursary Program

The Centre for Rural Health and Community Development (CRHaCD) is a UniSA funded research centre and a joint venture between the UniSA Centre for Regional Engagement (CRE) and the Spencer Gulf Rural Health School (SGRHS). It is offering up to four bursaries to encourage students to gain some research experience working with established researchers at the Whyalla campus of UniSA during the summer vacation.

The bursaries provide an opportunity for students of health and related disciplines (e.g. Social Work) to live and work in the country for an extended period during the summer vacation. Students will work as part of research teams on existing research projects underway at the Whyalla campus. CRHaCD areas of interest include population and public health, Aboriginal health, health program evaluation, community development (health) social care and palliative care. Bursaries will be offered for a minimum of four weeks between November and February. Undergraduate students or students in Graduate Entry programs offered by the UniSA division of Health Sciences or studying nursing in Whyalla are eligible to apply.

Conditions and Criteria:

Value: The bursary provides a travel subsidy of up to $150 for bus fare or own vehicle fuel. Furnished accommodation will be provided for the entire stay at no cost to students. Students will also receive a living allowance of $350.00 per week for the duration of the placement.

The SGRHS will meet all costs associated with the specific project including project travel expenses and costs associated with other directed activities (e.g. cultural awareness field trips).

Scholarship for continuing studentsSansom Institute Vacation Scholarship

This scholarship is intended to encourage students to gain experience in research and to form links with staff within the Sansom Institute, adjunct appointments and with collaborating institutions.

Each scholarship will support a student to undertake a 6 week project involving laboratory or pharmacy practice based research. Students may be placed in any Sector of the Sansom Institute or at a collaborating institution.

The scholarship is open to students who have successfully completed a minimum of the second year of any undergraduate program offered within the Division of Health Sciences or the Bachelor of Science program at UniSA.
