Scholarship for indigenous studentsAboriginal Country Teaching Scholarships

A number of scholarships of $2,500 per annum, up to a maximum of $10,000, are available for Aboriginal students who are year 12 school leavers, Aboriginal education workers, or mature aged entrants who have applied, or intend to apply, to study a teacher training program. This scholarship is also available to current undergraduates who are in a teacher education program full-time at a tertiary institution in South Australia or Bachelor Institute of Indigenous Tertiary Education, Northern Territory, or graduate students with an appropriate degree who have applied, or intend to apply, to complete a postgraduate teacher education program at a tertiary institution in South Australia.
Scholarship holders will be expected to complete their teacher education program and commence teaching in a DECS country school the year following their graduation.

Scholarship for new studentsScholarship for indigenous studentsAboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Undergraduate Pharmacy Scholarship Scheme

This scheme is managed by the Pharmacy Guild of Australia as part of the Rural and Remote Pharmacy Workforce Development Program (RRPWDP). There are three scholarships of $15,000 per annum (maximum of four years) offered to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who have been granted a place for full-time study in a pharmacy undergraduate degree at any Australian university that has entered into an agreement with the Guild.

Scholarship recipients are required to undertake all possible placements in a rural or remote community; join a Rural Health Club and/or Indigenous Students?Association at their university (where available); and enrol in any available courses that may assist in understanding the nature of rural practice.

AMA Indigenous People's Medical Scholarship Trust Fund 2008

This trust fund is for assisting and encouraging Aboriginals and Torrens Strait Islanders studying for a medical degree at an Australian University. Applicants must be eligible for ABSTUDY. A scholarship will not be awarded to an applicant who already holds any other substantial scholarship. To be eligible, the applicant must be currently enrolled at an Australian Medical School and completing at least their first year of medicine.

Scholarship for continuing studentsAtlas Copco Scholarship

The winner of this scholarship will spend a week with Atlas Copco in Australia at one of its offices. There they will get a feel for Atlas Copco's mining equipment and will also experience firsthand Atlas Copco's alliances with the Australian mining industry.

Following the Australian experience, the winner will travel to Sweden for two weeks. The first week is spent at the production facilities in Orebro, with Atlas Copco's R & D marketing teams. After this total product overview, the winner will spend the second week visiting Swedish mine sites.

The scholarship is open to AusIMM Student members studying at Australian, New Zealand and Papua New Guinean universities in the final two years of their Bachelor's Degree in technical courses of relevance to the minerals industry.

Scholarship for continuing studentsApple University Consortium (AUC) Offers Scholarships to Honours Students

The AUC Honours Scholarship program is available to domestic full- and part-time students of AUC Member Universities who are in their honours year. 

Applications are accepted from students enrolled in a broad range of disciplines, including the Sciences, Humanities, Engineering, Arts, Health and Business with a focus on using Apple technologies as part of their Honours Project. 

The Scholarships are valued at $4000 with extra funding for conference attendance and publication. Applications close on Friday, 28 February 2008.

Scholarship for continuing studentsAustralian Federation of University Women - ACT Inc. Bursary

The Australian Federation of University Women (AFUW) - ACT Inc. offers free board and lodging for up to four weeks at a residential college at the Australian National University, Canberra, for a woman graduate or Honours student from a tertiary institution in Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea or a South Pacific nation. Preference may be given to applicants who are members of associations formally affiliated with AFUW and residents of Canberra are not eligible to apply.

The bursary will be available during the 2007-2008 summer vacation, and depending upon accommodation availability it may be possible to negotiate with the College for a stay at some other time.

The award is open to women of any age who wish to carry our some short project that necessitates a short stay in Canberra and which will benefit an applicant's research or professional expertise. The successful applicant will be required to make a brief report to AFUW- ACT Inc. following the completion of her project.

The AFUW-SA Inc provide bursaries funded by the proceeds from their academic dress hire service, kindly staffed on a voluntary basis by members of AFUW-SA Inc and friends.

The Padnendadlu Undergraduate Bursary valued at $700 is open to Indigenous Australian women enrolled at South Australian universities, undertaking subjects for the final year of their Bachelor degree, or undertaking subjects for the final year of their Bachelor degree, or undertaking an Honours degree.

Application forms are available from the AFUW website from October to February inclusive.

All Bursaries are envisaged primarily as short term aids and must be used within twelve months of the date of award.

Royal College of Nursing, Australia acts as the fund administrator for a number of nursing scholarships funded through the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.   There are a number of scholarships of various value available for 2007 including:

Scholarship for new studentsScholarship for economically disadvantaged studentsAustralian Veterans' Children Assistance Trust (AVCAT)

 In 2007 the Australian Veterans' Children Assistance Trust (AVCAT) is offering financial assistance for up to 75 students under many different scholarship schemes.  All schemes help the selected students in need of the Australian veteran community with the costs of tertiary education.  Applicants are considered for all schemes for which they are eligible.

Applicants must be:

a. Within the means test. That is, financially eligible on assets and income grounds for Youth Allowance benefits for full-time education.
b. Enrolled, or planning to enrol, in a full-time course of tertiary education in Australia by attendance at a University, TAFE, of college.  The course must be of one or more academic years length and at undergraduate level.
c. The child or grandchild of a person with operational service, or more than two years of continuous full-time service, as a member of the Australian Army, Navy or Air Force.
d. Under the age of 25 when applying unless exceptional circumstances exist, related to veteran’s service.

Scholarship for new studentsScholarship for economically disadvantaged studentsAviation Scholarships (Estate of Ronald J Lambert)

The late Ronald J Lambert made provision in his will for the establishment of scholarships payable to young people who wish to pursue study and training in any branch of aviation. Mr Lambert’s will makes provision for scholarships to be made available to persons of the Protestant faith who are secondary school students or have completed their secondary schooling. Preference may be given to those applicants who attend or have attended schools in the Hindmarsh and Brompton areas. However, applicants who have attended schools in other areas are encouraged to apply.

The financial circumstances of the applicant and of the applicant’s parents or guardians will be considered when the scholarships are being determined.

The value and opening dates of the scholarships will be determined on a yearly basis between October and November.

Brian Gray Scholarship Program

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) and the Reserve Bank of Australia continue to support the Brian Gray Scholarship program in memory of Brian Gray, who died on 24 August 2001 while serving as Executive General Manager of APRA’s Policy, Research and Consulting Division.

The Brian Gray Scholarship program funds four scholarships annually, to the value of $12,500 each. The scholarship purpose is to support students who intend to focus full time on their studies and research. As part of the scholarship, students will devote a substantial amount of time to an agreed research topic, benefiting from access to APRA expertise and data.

The scholarship is open to Australian and New Zealand citizens and permanent residents undertaking full time study at Australian universities. There is a preference to award these scholarships to honours students in their final undergraduate year however students undertaking an academic Masters degree with a research focus will also be considered. Applicants will need to be undertaking research in a field relevant to prudential supervision. This may include research on the economics of regulation as well as banking, insurance and superannuation, particularly the prudential supervision and financial soundness of these industries, or econometric and statistical studies using APRA’s databases.

Scholarship for continuing studentsCancer Council SA Student Vacation Scholarships

The Cancer Council SA offers annual scholarships to undergraduate students interested in participating in research projects directly related to cancer. These scholarships, which are tenable for up to eight weeks, will be available during the summer holiday period in recognised research institutions in South Australia. The scholarships are intended to stimulate the interest of students in research and to test their research aptitude.

The scholarships are open to undergraduate students who are enrolled in any Faculty who have completed at least two years of their program at the time the scholarship commences. Scholarships are valued at $200 per week for the agreed tenure, up to a maximum of eight weeks.

Scholarship for new studentsThe Charles Allan Seymour (CAS) Hawker Scholarship

The CAS Hawker Scholarship commemorates the achievements of one of Australia's most respected pastoral pioneers who served with distinction in the First World War and went on to become a distinguished scholar and leading figure in the Federal Parliament prior to his tragic and untimely death in an aircraft accident in 1938.

The CAS Hawker Scholarship is available to any Australian student undertaking a three or four year program of study approved by the Trustees. In some instances it is offered to postgraduate students. Successful applicants can choose to study at one of the nominated Australian universities or at Cambridge University in the UK. The scholarship normally covers the cost of compulsory fees, books, stationery and equipment and also provides an allowance for living expenses.

These scholarships are available to full-time undergraduate students who, at the time of enrolment or re-enrolment, have been resident in the City of West Torrens for a minimum of five years prior to application closing date and are Australian citizens. Scholarship for continuing studentsCSIRO Plant Industry Summer Student Program

CSIRO Plant Industry offers Summer Studentship, run in collaboration with The Australian Pastoral Research Trust and the Grains Research and Development Corporation, or a Summer Studentship with the Centre for Plant Biodiversity Research.

Each Studentship runs for 10 weeks and projects are especially tailored for second and third year university undergraduates.

Starting on 3 December 2007 and ending 8 February 2008, each successful student works alongside a CSIRO research scientist who undertakes to guide the student during their project.

Projects are designed to ensure they provide students the opportunity to learn new techniques and approaches, and to experience the excitement of research science.

At the completion of their Studentship, students present their results in a public forum and prepare a final report on their findings.

EEF Minerals Industry Scholarships are available to all students currently in the second year of a four year Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy (AusIMM) recognised course, valued at $7,000 per year for two years.

The most outstanding scholarship winner/s will receive a Rio Tinto/Sir Frank Espie premium scholarship, which will entitle them to $12,000 per year. This scholarship was generously endowed by the Espie Family, in memory of Sir Frank Espie. Sir Frank made outstanding contributions of leadership, dedication, and technical management to the mining industries of Australia and Papua New Guinea, and was a distinguished leading member of The AusIMM.

Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing

Scholarships will cover conference registration (which includes most meals), lodging, and an upper limit for airfare based on the geographic region of the applicant. Although the majority of scholarship grants are awarded to undergraduate and graduate students, junior faculty, members of non-governmental organizations and non-profits are eligible to apply for scholarships. GHC Student Scholarships are made possible by generous grants from the National Science Foundation, Google, and the Anita Borg Institute for Women and Technology.

2008 Google Australia and New Zealand Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship

As part of Google's ongoing commitment to furthering Anita Borg's vision, we are pleased to announce the 2008 Google Australia and New Zealand Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship. In 2006, the Australia Anita Borg Scholarship was established to honour the legacy of Anita Borg and her efforts to encourage women to pursue careers in computer science and technology. Three years later, we continue to strive to encourage women to excel in computing and technology, and become active role models and leaders.

Anita Borg Scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of candidates' academic background, community involvement and demonstrated leadership. A group of female undergraduate and graduate student finalists will be chosen from the applicant pool. The scholarship recipients will each receive a scholarship for the 2009 academic year and an expenses-paid trip to the 2009 Grace Hopper Conference.

In addition, all finalists and scholarship recipients will be invited to an expenses-paid networking retreat to be held at Google's Sydney Engineering centre in September. It will include workshops with a series of speakers, breakout sessions, social activities, and will provide an opportunity for all finalists to meet and share their experiences.

The Australian Constitution is the foundation of our system of government. It gives us our national unity and guarantees our freedoms, yet very few of us know much about it. To encourage young Australians to learn more about our Constitution, the Governor-General, Major General Michael Jeffery, has created a special annual competition funded by the Constitution Education Fund - Australia (CEF-A) Called the Governor-General's Prize, the initial competition is open to all undergraduate students in Australia.

The Governor-General will present the winners with their awards at a special ceremony at Government House in Canberra around Australia Day.

Three entrance bursaries are available to assist promising students who, because of economic hardship, could not otherwise afford to live in the College. The value of each bursary will be an eight-week remission of the fees paid by the bursary holder. The bursaries are open to students about to complete Year 12 and who intend to enrol at the University of South Australia, Flinders University or Adelaide University; students who have received a SATAC or direct offer to commence study at one of the above institutions; and students already enrolled in a university program but who would be entering the College for the first time.

The National Indigenous Cadetship Project (NICP) is a Commonwealth Government initiative aimed at improving the professional employment prospects of Indigenous Australians. The NICP is administered by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR).

Students must be Indigenous Australians and enrolled (or about to enrol) to study full-time at an Australian university in their first undergraduate degree course. DEWR provides funding to the employer to pay the cadet a study allowance while the cadet studies full-time in an approved course of study.

For each year of study the employer provides the cadet with 12 weeks paid work placement that is relevant to their study, usually during the long vacation break. It is expected that the employer will offer the cadet employment when they have successfully completed their cadetship.

Funded through the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, the Puggy Hunter Memorial Scholarship Scheme has been established in recognition of Dr Arnold 'Puggy' Hunter's outstanding contribution to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and his role as Chair of the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (NACCHO).

The aim of the Scheme is to help address the under representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in health professions and assist in increasing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with professional health qualifications.

The Scheme provides financial assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who undertake the study of Nursing, Medicine, Allied Health or Certificate III and IV or Diploma and Advanced Diploma Aboriginal Health Worker Course at an educational institution/University/Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

Scholarships will be available for the start of the 2009 academic year and are worth up to $7,500 per year for part time study and up $15,000 per year for full time study.

Scholarship for continuing studentsThe Queen Elizabeth Hospital Research Foundation Scholarships 2009

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital (TQEH) campus, of the Central Northern Adelaide Health service (CNAHS) on Woodville Road, Woodville South, has a substantial research base, with a number of University Department and Hospital Unit research arms forming the Basil Hetzel Institute (BHI). Through its teaching and research affiliation with the University of Adelaide and University of South Australia, TQEH provides valuable basic and clinical research training opportunities at its site. A new purpose built research facility on the campus opens in December 2008, with modern laboratories and office accommodation to house our current research group.

The Basil Hetzel Institute (BHI) is committed to expanding the pool of research scholars at TQEH. As an incentive to attracting students, the BHI offers three types of scholarships funded by TQEH Research Foundation, as outlined below:

Scholarship - Vacation (up to six available in 2009)

This Scholarship scheme is an application-based, competitive program that enables undergraduate students with research promise to gain research experience under the supervision of a staff member of the University of Adelaide or University of South Australia or a hospital staff member affiliated with one of the universities in South Australia.

Scholarships are tenable for the full-time equivalent of a minimum of six weeks and a maximum of eight weeks. Students have the option of splitting the scholarship such that some of it may be conducted part-time and some of it full-time, on the condition that this is negotiated with the supervisor and communicated to TQEH Research Secretariat.

Eligibility: The Vacation Scholarship is designed for undergraduate students who have completed at least two years of their program.
A student can only hold a TQEH Research Foundation Vacation Research Scholarship (or equivalent) if they do not simultaneously hold another vacation scholarship.

The Scholarship scheme is a competitive, application-based scheme that supports students with research promise to undertake an Honours degree at an institution of higher education.

Eligibility: Students must be eligible to enrol in an Honours Degree with any University in South Australia. A student can only hold a TQEH Research Foundation Honours Research Scholarship if they do not simultaneously hold another Honours Scholarship.

Any research of a collaborative nature with University Departments outside of TQEH or with other organisations will need terms and conditions to be documented in a research agreement and attached to the Scholarship application.

Scholarship - Postgraduate (up to six available in 2009)
The Scholarship scheme is an application-based, competitive program that enables postgraduate students with research promise to undertake a higher degree at an institution of higher education. Subject to certain conditions, Masters degree candidates may study for a maximum of two years, and PhD students for three years.

In addition to the application-based process, top-up scholarships will be offered to any scholar awarded an APA scholarship from the Universities of Adelaide, South Australia or Flinders who commences full-time postgraduate research at the TQEH in 2009.

Eligibility: Students must be a medical graduate eligible for registration in South Australia, or appropriately qualified science graduate or health professional eligible for enrolment in a university higher degree, and meet citizenship and residency criteria.

Any research of a collaborative nature with university departments outside of TQEH or with other organisations will need terms and conditions to be documented in a research agreement and attached to the Scholarship application.

This scholarship program promotes the pursuit of justice and human rights for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians through the education of young Indigenous people in these fields, enabling the continuation of the advocacy work so courageously and passionately pursued by the late Robert Riley.

Four scholarships, of up to $5,000 each, will be awarded to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged up to 30 years for the pursuit of studies in the fields of law, human rights and juvenile justice. Rural Allied Health Undergraduate Scholarship Scheme (RAHUS)

The Rural Allied Health Undergraduate Scholarship (RAHUS) Scheme is an Australian Government initiative to support rural origin individuals to undertake allied health and oral health degrees so they may pursue a clinical career in rural and remote Australia.

The RAHUS Scheme is open to individuals with a rural background studying an allied health degree [audiology, chiropractic, dietetics, exercise physiology, indigenous health (tertiary degree only), occupational therapy, optometry, osteopathy, medical radiation science (medical imaging, radiation therapy & nuclear medicine technology) physiotherapy, podiatry, psychology (postgraduate), social work and speech pathology] or oral health degree [dentistry and oral health].

The scholarship provides $10,000 a year to assist students with accommodation, living and travel expenses during their studies. Eligible students will have lived in a rural or remote region of Australia for at least five consecutive or eight cumulative years and must be Australian citizens or permanent Australian residents. These scholarships are managed by the Aboriginal Health Division of the South Australian Department of Health and are available for the duration of the recipient’s studies, subject to successful completion of each academic year. The scholarships are valued at $5,000 for each year of study for full time studies, or part time equivalent.

Scholarship for continuing studentsSAPAC/eResearch SA Summer Vacation Scholarships, 2007-2008

The South Australian Partnership for Advanced Computing (SAPAC, soon to become eResearch SA) is offering up to four Summer Vacation Scholarships available for up to 10 weeks in the period December 2007 to February 2008, with a tax-free stipend of $250 per week.

Participants will work on a project that contributes to some aspect of the SAPAC activities in advanced high-performance computing, grid computing, digital repositories, visualisation and e-Research, as applied to any discipline, and will be supervised by SAPAC staff. Examples include:

Suggestions for other projects related to the activities of SAPAC are welcomed.

SAPAC encourages applications from students in all disciplines. One studentship is targeted at a suitable project in Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences or Finance.

Applicants should be students from one of the public South Australian universities, who are currently enrolled in at least their second year of study, and have a strong academic record. Students awarded a scholarship will be expected to produce a short written report at the end of the internship.

Terry Roberts Memorial Scholarship

The scholarship is designed to assist Indigenous people to undertake full-time undergraduate study at a South Australian university, by providing financial assistance towards meeting living and study-related costs.
Students who have undertaken a South Australian university bridging/foundation course immediately prior to undertaking their undergraduate study will also be considered.

The Wyatt Benevolent Institution offers several scholarships each year to South Australian residents who have lived in the State for at least five years outside the metropolitan area. Applicants and their spouses/parents must have a combined annual taxable income of less than $50,000. Family incomes will be averaged over several years to compensate for seasonal variations for primary producers. The scholarships are valued at $3,000 and are awarded on the basis of demonstrated financial need and academic merit and are for the duration of a full-time undergraduate degree or diploma program. Students who are in receipt of a Commonwealth Learning Scholarship, specifically the Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship, are not eligible to apply for a Wyatt Scholarship.

Wyndham Richardson Study Grants 2008

The objectives of the Grants are to encourage and assist students undertaking tertiary education.

The grants are open to continuing and commencing students who undertake undergraduate or postgraduate degree program. The student must be based in the metropolitan area or outside the metropolitan (South Australia).

Applicants will be required to attend an interview by a panel from the Richardson Trust Board. Applications will be assessed in August and February. Exceptions are made for cases of emergency. Applications must be lodged by the end of November and the end of May.
