Anne and Gordon Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarships
Program
Mr Gordon Samstag, late of Florida, USA, was a former staff member of the South Australian School of Art. In his will he made provision for a US$5 million gift for a trust fund to be set up to fund scholarships to enable Australian visual arts students to study overseas. The University of South Australia administers the Samstag scholarships which each year provide grants covering return fares, tuition fees, materials, equipment and reasonable living costs for 12 months with a possible six month extension for up to ten Australian artists to study overseas.
The following are eligible:
- graduates, of not more than five years standing by 30 June in each year, of a studio-based program at an Australian institution of higher education, or
- visual arts students currently enrolled in a studio-based program in an Australian institution of higher education who have completed at least two years of full-time equivalent study.
All applicants must be either Australian citizens or have permanent residency status, and be at least 18 years of age. Persons currently overseas may apply provided they are otherwise eligible in accordance with the above.

The
Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) Research and Development Scholarship
One scholarship will be awarded annually to students undertaking studies either in the Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics or Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering) program. The scholarship is provided to encourage undergraduate research in the field of Australian building regulations. The research must form a major component of the degree, such as research project, thesis or dissertation.
Applicants are required to submit their proposal to Associate Professor George Zillante who will forward them to ABCB for assessment.

The
Construction Industry Training Board Design and Technology Scholarships
Doorways to Construction (D2C) is a Vocational Education and Training (VET) initiative set up by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) in conjunction with the secondary schooling sectors of South Australia. The program is designed to assist secondary students to learn about the skills in the building and construction industry and gives them the opportunity to experience the various career pathways within the industry.
In an effort to support the recruitment of interested and skilled teachers for the delivery of the D2C programs, the Construction Industry Training Board Design and Technology Scholarships will provide funds to assist students with the cost of the student contribution amount for a Commonwealth supported place for the final two years of the Bachelor of Education (Design and Technology) at UniSA.
To meet the scholarship eligibility criteria recipients must:
- be enrolled full-time in the Bachelor of Education (Design and Technology Education) at UniSA
- be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Australia
- maintain satisfactory progress within the program in each half year, as defined by university policy
- undertake the third-year and fourth-year practicum placements for the program in a secondary school setting which includes working directly with a D2C program
- participate in a range of building and construction industry activities organised by the CITB including and not limited to site visits and undertaking additional courses in the trades skills areas
- complete the application form
Graduates of the Doorways 2 Construction program or a similar VET in school program, and persons with skills/work experience related to the Construction Industry are encouraged to apply.

Cowan
International Placement Grants in Social Work
The Cowan International Placement Grants in Social Work assists students undertaking 16 weeks placement at India’s Rural Unit for Health and Social Affairs or Mulot Health Centre in Western Kenya. It is open to students enrolled in the 3rd, 4th and 5th years of: Bachelor of Social Work; Bachelor of Social Science (Human Services); Bachelor of Social Work/Bachelor of Psychology; Bachelor of Arts (Aboriginal Policy and Management/ Bachelor of Social Science (Human Services), Bachelor of Social Science (Human Services)/Bachelor of Psychological Science or Bachelor of Arts (Aboriginal Studies)/Bachelor of Social Work, who commenced University studies in one of the above programs no more than two years after the completion of year 12 and who can demonstrate financial disadvantage.
Applicants must also meet the UniSA academic requirements for international placement, including the requirement for a University International Travel Grant.
Preference will be given to rural students and those who commenced University study no more than two years after the completion of Year 12.

Cowan
International Placement Grant for Hawke Ambassador
The Cowan International Placement Grant for Hawke Ambassador will assist a student undertaking an international placement/internship as part of the Hawke Ambassador Program. It is open to students enrolled full time in the 3rd, 4th or 5th years of any of Bachelor of Arts (International Studies), Bachelor of Applied Language and Intercultural Communication or associated double degrees with International Studies who can demonstrate financial disadvantage. Applicants must also meet the UniSA academic requirements for an international placement, including the requirements for a UniSA Travel Grant. Preference will be given to rural students and those who commenced University study no more than two years after the completion of Year 12. One grant will be awarded in 2007.

Pank Education Scholarship
The Pank Family has established this scholarship in
memory of David Pank.
In 2008, two scholarships, each tenable for three years, will be offered to
students enrolled full-time in the second year of a Bachelor of Education
program (and associated Double Degree programs) and living in the areas of
Salisbury and Playford.
The value of each scholarship is up to $6,000, payable at the rate of $2000

Pank Northern Areas Education Placement Scholarship
The Pank Family has established this scholarship in memory of David Pank.
In 2008 two scholarships will be offered to high achieving students enrolled
full-time in the third year of one of the following programs: - Bachelor of
Education, Bachelor of Science (LBES) - Bachelor of Education (Primary and
Middle) (LBPM)
The recipients will be required to undertake their final-year teaching
placements in a Northern Suburbs public school. The value of each
scholarship is up to $2,000 for one year, subject to satisfactory academic
progress. Applications will open on 23 June and close on 8 August 2008.

DesignInc ESD Scholarship
Nomination is based on academic merit in level 2 results of students enrolled in the Bachelor of Architecture. The scholarship recipient will be chosen through a combination of academic merit and an interview process. The selection panel will assess applicants on leadership potential, communications skill and problem solving aptitude relating to ESD. The Director of DesignInc will be a member of the panel.

EAS
Undergraduate Research Vacation Scholarships
The scholarships are open to students enrolled in an undergraduate program in EAS who, in 2007, completed either their third or their honours year. Scholarships are awarded competitively based on academic merit and on the availability of supervision. Only one application per student is permitted and scholarships are only awarded for the purpose of undertaking research at UniSA. Successful applicants cannot defer the scholarship and must take it up during the time nominated on the application. Each successful applicant is required to forward a brief written report of the work undertaken during the scholarship to the EAS Research Office within six weeks of the end of tenure of the scholarship.

Journalism Scholarship
To be awarded for a period of three academic years to a student of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who has been admitted to the Bachelor of Arts (Journalism). The scholarship consists of a $7,500 stipend paid to the recipient for the first year of the scholarship and student contribution amount payments for the duration of the degree.

Shirley
Harper Indigenous Scholarship in Education
The late Shirley Harper was an early childhood teacher and her family has dedicated this scholarship in honour of her memory and life work in education. The scholarship is valued at $5,000 per annum (for up to four years), and will be awarded to a financially disadvantaged Indigenous student enrolled in the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) or Bachelor of Education (Junior Primary and Primary). The scholarship will be open to commencing students, existing UniSA students or students returning to study.

Water Undergraduate Indigenous Scholarship
The SA Water Undergraduate Indigenous Scholarship will be awarded for the first time in 2007. The scholarship will be available for 2nd/3rd year students studying full time in a program with either the Division of Business, Information Technology, Engineering and the Environment, Health Sciences or Education, Arts and Social Sciences.
To be eligible for this scholarship students must :
- Be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident
- Have an idea of their future in engineering and how the scholarship will be of benefit to them in achieving this
- Have an interest in SA Water Graduate Program and be willing to attend Graduate Program functions at SA Water

of South Australia Bachelor of Psychological Science Scholarship
The scholarship is awarded twice yearly, each half year. The recipients will be the students who achieve the highest grade point average (GPA) across all 24 relevant courses/subjects in the program for the previous academic year in the Malaysian HELP Institute’s American Degree Program In Psychology.
The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic results provided to the Head of the School of Psychology by The Director, Centre for Psychology of the HELP institute. The scholarships may, at the advice of the Director, be recommended to be shared between two students as half fee scholarships.
