Scholarship for continuing studentsAnne and Gordon Samstag International Visual Arts Scholarships Program

Mr Gordon Samstag, late of Florida, USA, was a former staff member of the South Australian School of Art. In his will he made provision for a US$5 million gift for a trust fund to be set up to fund scholarships to enable Australian visual arts students to study overseas.  The University of South Australia administers the Samstag scholarships which each year provide grants covering return fares, tuition fees, and reasonable living costs for 12 months for up to ten Australian artists to study overseas.

The following are eligible:

All applicants must be either Australian citizens or have permanent residency status, and be at least 18 years of age. Persons currently overseas may apply provided they are otherwise eligible in accordance with the above.

Scholarship for continuing studentsThe Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) Research and Development Scholarship

One scholarship will be awarded annually to students undertaking studies either in the Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics or Bachelor of Engineering (Civil Engineering) program. The scholarship is provided to encourage undergraduate research in the field of Australian building regulations. The research must form a major component of the degree, such as research project, thesis or dissertation.

Applicants are required to submit their proposal to Associate Professor George Zillante who will forward them to ABCB for assessment.

Scholarship for new studentsScholarship for continuing studentsThe Construction Industry Training Board Design and Technology Scholarships

Doorways to Construction (D2C) is a Vocational Education and Training (VET) initiative set up by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) in conjunction with the secondary schooling sectors of South Australia. The program is designed to assist secondary students to learn about the skills in the building and construction industry and gives them the opportunity to experience the various career pathways within the industry.

In an effort to support the recruitment of interested and skilled teachers for the delivery of the D2C programs, the Construction Industry Training Board Design and Technology Scholarships will provide funds to assist students with the cost of the student contribution amount for a Commonwealth supported place for the final two years of the Bachelor of Education (Design and Technology) at UniSA.

To meet the scholarship eligibility criteria recipients must:

Graduates of the Doorways 2 Construction program or a similar VET in school program, and persons with skills/work experience related to the Construction Industry are encouraged to apply.

Scholarship for continuing studentsScholarship for economically disadvantaged studentsCowan International Placement Grant for Hawke Ambassador

The Cowan International Placement Grants for Hawke Ambassador will assist students undertaking an international placement/internship as part of the Hawke Ambassador Program.

Two grants are open to students who are enrolled full time in the 3rd, 4th or 5th years of any of the Bachelor of Arts (International Studies), Bachelor of Applied Language and Intercultural Communication or associated double degrees with International Studies, and who can demonstrate financial disadvantage. Applicants must also meet the UniSA academic requirements for an international placement, including the requirements for a UniSA Travel Grant.

Preference may be given to rural students and those who commenced University study no more than two years after the completion of Year 12.

David Pank Education Scholarship

The Pank Family has established this scholarship in memory of David Pank.

The scholarship is tenable for three years and will be offered to students enrolled full-time in the second year of a Bachelor of Education program (and associated Double Degree programs).

Applicants must provide evidence of financial hardship and a supporting statement with their application outlining their career and personal aspirations and how the scholarship will assist them in achieving their goals. Details of financial disadvantage should also be included in the written statement.

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of financial hardship, a personal written statement, academic merit and an interview.

Value: The value of each scholarship is up to $6,000, payable at the rate of $2,000 per year. Annual payments will be split in two instalments of $1,000 after the Study Period 2 and 5 census dates.

David Pank Northern Areas Education Placement Grant

The Pank Family has established the David Pank Northern Areas Education Placement Grant in memory of David Pank. The grants will be offered to high achieving students enrolled full-time in either:

Applicants must submit a one-page written statement detailing their career objectives and how the grant will assist in achieving their goals. They should also include details of their vision for helping students in disadvantaged schools, and their passion for education. Preference will be given to applicants with a Mathematics and Science specialisation.

Grant recipients will be advised of their award in the third year of an undergraduate program or the first year of a Masters program, and will receive their payment of $1,000 after the Study Period 2 census date in the final year of their program.

EAS Undergraduate Research Vacation Grant

The grants are open to students enrolled in an undergraduate program in EAS who have completed either their third or their honours year. Grants are awarded competitively based on academic merit and on the availability of supervision. Only one application per student is permitted and grants are only awarded for the purpose of undertaking research at UniSA. Successful applicants cannot defer the grant and must take it up during the time nominated on the application. Each successful applicant is required to forward a brief written report of the work undertaken during the grant to the EAS Research Office within six weeks of the end of tenure of the grant.

Education Rural Placement Grants

These grants were established to assist financially disadvantaged students who are enrolled full-time in the fourth year of an education program in the School of Education at UniSA to undertake a final professional experience placement (six weeks duration) in a rural or remote school in South Australia.

The grants will assist students with the costs related to undertaking the rural placement including travel, accommodation and living expenses.

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents and must demonstrate financial disadvantage. The selection panel may give preference to applicants who reside in the northern suburbs including Salisbury, Playford and Gawler regions, and to applicants who can demonstrate academic achievement.

Applicants must complete an online application and submit a written statement which details their goals for undertaking a placement in a rural or remote location and a brief description of how the grant will assist them.

Ian Cox Memorial Social Work Honours Scholarship

The Ian Cox Memorial Social Work Honours Scholarship has been established in memory of the late Ian Cox, who was Director-General of the Department of Community Welfare from 1970 to 1984. He was also an Associate Professor and lecturer in Social Work at UniSA from 1987 to 2000.

Ian Cox was instrumental in a comprehensive reform of juvenile justice and made a significant contribution to establishing community engagement with the government's program of support for South Australians experiencing disadvantage.

The scholarship is available to full-time students undertaking the Honours year of a Bachelor of Social Work. Eligible applicants must be undertaking research in one of the following broad areas of interest:

Findings of the research must be applicable to policy and/or service development within South Australia.

Eligible applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents. Selection will be based on academic merit and a written statement and short-listed applicants may be invited to attend an interview with the scholarship selection panel.

The scholarship will provide $10,000 to assist with educational costs including living expenses, research expenses and travel costs. The recipient's HECS will also be paid the year they receive the scholarship.

Value: $10,000 plus payment of HECS fees for the year in which the scholarship is held. The recipient will receive two payments of $5,000 after the Study Period 2 and Study Period 5 census dates.

To be awarded for a period of three academic years to a student of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who has been admitted to the Bachelor of Arts (Journalism).  The scholarship consists of  a $7,500 stipend paid to the recipient for the first year of the scholarship and student contribution amount payments for the duration of the degree.

The Linda Lou Murphy Visual Arts Scholarship

The scholarship has been established to honour the late Linda Lou Murphy who was a highly regarded South Australian artist known for performances that included the adornment of the body by complex folded paper forms. The interplay between skin/paper, artefact/body, and risk as a positive force were some of the themes that informed her work.

The scholarship is open to commencing or continuing students who are enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework visual arts program (minimum load of 9 units per study period) and preference may be given to a first year student.

The recipient will be selected on the basis of financial disadvantage or isolation, in accordance with the donors wishes, although consideration may also be given to applicants addressing other equity criteria. Additionally recipients will be selected on their passion for visual arts demonstrated in the personal written statement, and performance at an interview.

Scholarship applicants must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident, be enrolled in a Visual Arts program, and provide a personal written statement. Applicants will need to provide relevant details relating to their equity status (e.g. Indigenous, low-socio economic status, rural or isolated location or students with a disability) and personal or financial circumstances should be included in their written statement.

Students who are in receipt of another scholarship administered by UniSA are not eligible to apply.

Value: $5,000 paid in two instalments of $2,500. The first payment will be made after the Study Period 2 census date, and the final payment will be made after the Study Period 5 census date, subject to satisfactory academic performance.

Scholarship for continuing studentsNational Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education Honours

Students who plan to conduct their Honours project within the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education are eligible to apply.

Applicants must submit an academic transcript and a CV, and may be required to attend an interview. Successful candidates will be determined by a panel comprising staff from the NCSEHE (including the Director) and a member of staff from the School in which the student is enrolled.

Honours scholarships are valued at $4,000 for a period of one year only (additional funding for conference attendance and presentation is possible).

The Pearce Family Transition Grants

The Pearce Family have made available Transition Grants to assist rural students in the transition to tertiary education. The grants are available to rural students who have graduated from high school in the last two years and are enrolling in University for the first time. Applicants must be commencing a full time undergraduate degree program in Education (including double degrees) at UniSA and be able to demonstrate financial disadvantage. Grants of $2,000 each are available for students from a designated rural area. Grants will be awarded on merit and financial disadvantage.

Rural Reconnect Grants

Fourteen grants are available to students from a rural or isolated area who have relocated to Adelaide to study full-time and are undertaking a professional experience placement in one the following disciplines: Education, Health Sciences, Nursing or Midwifery.

Applicants must be Australian citizens or permanent residents, be financially disadvantaged and have lived in a rural or isolated area for at least four years prior to commencing university. Applicants must be undertaking their placement in a rural area in the year that they apply for the grant. Please note that the grants will not be awarded retrospectively.

Applicants must provide a personal written statement detailing the location and duration of their rural placement and their future career goals. Preference may be given to applicants who are undertaking a rural placement greater than four consecutive weeks.

Applicants who are receiving financial assistance from the Spencer Gulf Rural Health School are not eligible to apply.

Recipients will be selected on the basis of demonstrated financial disadvantage, academic merit (GPA) and a personal written statement. Recipients will also be invited to participate in research and evaluation.

The late Shirley Harper was an early childhood teacher and her family has dedicated this scholarship in honour of her memory and life work in education. The scholarship is valued at $5,000 per annum (for up to four years), and will be awarded to a financially disadvantaged Indigenous student enrolled in the Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) or Bachelor of Education (Junior Primary and Primary). The scholarship will be open to commencing students, existing UniSA students or students returning to study.

The scholarship is awarded twice yearly, once in each semester. The recipients will be the students who achieve the highest grade point average (GPA) across all 20 relevant courses/subjects in the program for the previous academic year in the Malaysian HELP Institute's American Degree Program In psychology.

The scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic results provided to the Head of the School of Psychology by The Director, Centre for Psychology of the HELP institute. The scholarships may, at the advice of the Director, be recommended to be shared between two students as half fee scholarships.
