Scholarship for commencing/new studentsAnne Wexler Australian-American Public Policy Scholarships

The Anne Wexler Scholarships are part of the Australian Government's Australia Awards Program and are funded through the Australian Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and administered by the Australian-American Fulbright Commission. 

Valued at up to $A140,000, this scholarship supports up to two years of study or research in the United States. The Scholarship can be started anytime between 1 July 2011 and 30 June 2012. 

Two Wexler Scholarships will be awarded annually. One for an Australian citizen to enrol in a U.S. Masters degree program in Public Policy and one for an American (US) citizen to enrol in an Australian Masters program in Public Policy.

Australia Awards - Endeavour Awards

The Endeavour Awards is the Australian Government's internationally competitive, merit based scholarship program providing opportunities for citizens of the Asia Pacific, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas to undertake study, research or professional development in Australia. Scholarship for new studentsScholarship for continuing studentsAustralian German Association/Goethe Institut Educational Development Fellowship

The annual award is available to Australian citizens only. The candidate should have excellent academic tertiary qualifications and the prospect of a promising career in business, law, science, political studies or arts. The Fellowship includes a German language course of eight weeks and a four week period researching a topic of particular interest to the awardee in Germany. The candidate must have a good working knowledge of the German language and is expected to prepare a report on his/her return and address members of the Australian/German Association on the topic that has been researched.

The program provides for:

  • Spend 3 months in Germany
  • Attend an intensive language and cultural study course for 8 weeks with accommodation;
  • Contribution of up to $2,500 toward a return economy airfare plus $6,000 travel allowance

Brian Gray Scholarship Program

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) and the Reserve Bank of Australia continue to support the Brian Gray Scholarship program in memory of Brian Gray, who died on 24 August 2001 while serving as Executive General Manager of APRA's Policy, Research and Consulting Division.

The Brian Gray Scholarship program funds four scholarships annually, to the value of $12,500 each. The scholarship purpose is to support students who intend to focus full time on their studies and research. As part of the scholarship, students will devote a substantial amount of time to an agreed research topic, benefiting from access to APRA expertise and data.

The scholarship is open to Australian and New Zealand citizens and permanent residents undertaking full time study at Australian universities. There is a preference to award these scholarships to honours students in their final undergraduate year however students undertaking an academic Masters degree with a research focus will also be considered. Applicants will need to be undertaking research in a field relevant to prudential supervision. This may include research on the economics of regulation as well as banking, insurance and superannuation, particularly the prudential supervision and financial soundness of these industries, or econometric and statistical studies using APRA's databases.

The Charlie Bell Scholarship for Future Leaders

In recognition of the contribution made by the former McDonald's Corporation CEO, Charlie Bell, a scholarship for future leaders has been created in his name.

Charlie commenced his career as a crew person with McDonalds Kingsford in 1976 at the age of 15 and quickly progressed through the ranks, becoming Australia's youngest restaurant manager at the age of 19. He was appointed Managing Director of McDonalds Australia in 1993 and then ultimately President and Chief Executive Officer of McDonalds Corporation in April 2004 at the age of 43.

The Charlie Bell Scholarship for Future Leaders will reward successful candidates with a contribution of up to $15,000 towards tuition fees for their chosen undergraduate or post graduate study.

All short-listed applicants will be presented with an opportunity to participate in a leadership program, facilitated by DDI Asia Pacific, focused on the fundamentals of leadership, how to better motivate people and provide feedback and the personal attributes that can enable or derail leaders.

The Scholarship, administered by the Charlie Bell School of Management, recognises Charlie's commitment towards the provision of ongoing learning and  education.

The Charlie Perkins Indigenous Scholarships

The Charlie Perkins Scholarship Trust is offering two annual postgraduate scholarships to provide talented Indigenous Australians with the opportunity to study at either the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge for up to three years.

The scholarships are directed at Indigenous Australians who have the potential to become leaders in their field of study and in their communities. The first two Charlie Perkins scholars have been funded by the Australian Government, the British Government (through the Chevening program) and Rio Tinto. Qantas is the official airline partner for the scholarships.

The Charlie Perkins Scholarships will only be awarded to candidates who have been accepted into a postgraduate degree program offered at either the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge. In most circumstances, candidates will need to hold a First Class or upper Second Class Honours degree in order to be accepted to either university.

Applications for the 2012/13 Charlie Perkins Scholarships will open on Monday 15 August 2011 and will close on Friday 14 October 2011. Applicants are required to submit their application to the University of Cambridge by 1 December 2011 and to the University of Oxford by 20 January 2012.

Scholarship for continuing studentsCSIRO ATNF Summer Vacation Program

CSIRO summer vacation scholarships are available at the Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF) for graduate and undergraduate students who have completed undergraduate courses of three years or more in astronomy, physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, electrical engineering, or closely related subjects. The Australia Telescope National Facility (ATNF) is the premier radio astronomical facility in Australia and operates world-class radio astronomy observatories at Parkes and Narrabri, with headquarters in Sydney. Research projects offered for the 2005/2006 summer vacation program will be in the areas of astronomy, computing, signal processing and engineering. Placements may be either in Sydney, or at one of the observatories at Parkes or Narrabri.

Scholarships will be available for 10 to 12 working weeks. The program includes a 10 week core period. All students are expected to be present in Sydney at the start of the program and to be available to work between these dates. The stipend is $480 a week. Each student will undertake a research project under the supervision of a research engineer or scientist. The program also includes an observing trip of several days at the Narrabri Observatory where students will work in small teams and use the radio telescope to take observations for their own projects. Students will be selected according to their interests and the project needs of the supervisor taking into account academic merit and referees' statements.

Accommodation costs are paid for by the students. We can arrange reasonably priced accommodation for students working in Sydney. The ATNF headquarters is located at the Radiophysics Laboratory in Marsfield, 20 km north-west of the city centre and close to Macquarie University. Students placed at an observatory can be provided with on-site accommodation. Students from outside Australia will receive a contribution of $500 towards travel expenses to Australia. Australian students living outside Sydney will be given the cost of an economy rail fare, or cheapest available airfare, to and from their nearest capital city. Students at Parkes or Narrabri will receive some assistance for travel to and from Sydney during the program.

  • A one page statement on why you would like to participate in the program, giving some information about your academic background and some insight into your longer term career goals.

The Ferry Scholarship

The Ferry Scholarship is funded by a bequest from the late Cedric Arnold Seth Ferry, for the purpose of promoting study and research in the scientific fields of Physics or Chemistry.

Google Australia and New Zealand Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship

As part of Google's ongoing commitment to furthering Anita Borg's vision, we are pleased to announce the Google Australia and New Zealand Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship. In 2006, the Australia Anita Borg Scholarship was established to honour the legacy of Anita Borg and her efforts to encourage women to pursue careers in computer science and technology. Three years later, we continue to strive to encourage women to excel in computing and technology, and become active role models and leaders.

Female undergraduate and graduate scholarship winners will each receive a $5,000 scholarship for the 2011 academic year. In addition all finalists and scholarship recipients will be invited to an expenses-paid networking retreat to be held at Google's Sydney Engineering centre in September.

The Fulbright Scholarship

The Fulbright Scholarship Program is one of the largest and most prestigious educational scholarship programs in the world.

Established by the United States government in 1946, it now exists between the U.S. and 150 countries. The Australian-American Fulbright Commission is supported by the Australian and U.S. governments and a variety of corporate sponsors.  Between 20-25 Fulbright Scholarships(A25,000-A$40,000) are annually granted to Australian Postgraduates, Senior Scholars, Postdoctoral and Professional Scholars and a similar number of Postgraduate and Senior Scholarships for Americans to study in Australia.

Gates Cambridge Scholarships

Gates Cambridge Scholarships are full-cost awards for graduate study and research in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. A small number are also available for study towards a second undergraduate degree.

ICE WaRM's scholarships

Postgraduate scholarships for international students
ICE WaRMs postgraduate scholarship is available for international postgraduate students studying the nested Masters in Water Resources Management programme aims to attract high quality international students to education and training in water resources management, delivered by ICE WaRM partner institutions.

This scholarship pays full or partial tuition for eligible international students and is offered twice per year.

Postgraduate scholarships for domestic students
Finally, ICE WaRM offers a scholarship to domestic postgraduate students enrolled in the Graduate Diploma Water Resources Management Planning Stream. The programme is available via distance mode.

This scholarship pays tuition and is funded by the National Water Commission. It is aimed at regional and/or disadvantaged students and is offered twice per year.

Industry Leaders Fund Training Grants

The ILF identifies future leaders in South Australian industry and invests in their development via Grants of up to $50,000 to help them maximise their potential and bring new ideas to fruition. This investment assists in building the prosperity of productive wealth creating industry and the South Australian economy.

The Grants provided by ILF will pay for the applicant to study or obtain experience to pave the way for them to achieve their leadership capacity more quickly and effectively than would otherwise be the case. The aim is to fund training or experience that might otherwise not be accessible to the applicant.

Applications are sought from people who have demonstrated real potential to become leaders of industry in South Australia. Applicants are expected to nominate the type of training or experience opportunity they believe will best progress the realisation of their leadership potential and the expected cost. Grants of up to $50,000 are available to successful applicants.

The ILF recognises that leadership potential is not restricted to those who have a tertiary qualification and applications are encouraged from anyone who believes they have leadership potential and who has demonstrated that potential in their lives to date. Demonstration of leadership capacity is likely to have been in the workplace, but may have also been shown through positions of responsibility in a volunteer capacity, for example in a sporting club.

The ILF was created as a result of the transformation of the former Engineering Employers Association Group Training Scheme for apprentices which provided future tradespeople for South Australian industry to become an organisation that will facilitate training and experience opportunities to provide future leaders for South Australian industry.

King and Amy O'Malley Scholarship

King & Amy O'Malley Trust awards annual undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships for students applying for or enrolled in tertiary Home Economics or equivalent programs, such as Consumer Science, Family and Consumer Studies.

Scholarship selection criteria is based on:

  • academic performance;
  • professional goals in Home Economics;
  • personal and leadership attributes;
  • potential to contribute to the Home Economics profession

To be successful, an applicant needs to meet the selection criteria at a high level.

Professionally, the applicant should display the potential to work in a leadership role, be currently involved professionally in a Home Economics or related field and have breadth and depth of knowledge about home economics and its role in society.

Academically, consistently high grades in all areas are expected, with analytical thinking and open to new ideas part of the requirements.

Personally, an applicant will have all of the positive attributes which are developed through home economics such as inclusivity and social justice, determination to succeed, and sensitivity in dealing with a range of people and issues from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Any person working in the field of home economics is encouraged to consider their eligibility for a King and Amy O'Malley Scholarship and to apply if they feel suitable. This ensures that the legacy left by King and Amy O'Malley will continue to support the home economists of the future.

The Lisa Fox Indigenous Fellowship Program at New York University

A new fully-funded postgraduate fellowship opportunity is now being administered by the Aurora Project. The Lisa Fox Indigenous Fellowship Program will enable one Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander postgraduate each year to undertake a Masters (MA) or Doctoral (PhD) program at New York University (NYU), commencing in September 2012. In this inaugural year, applicants will be considered in the areas of Arts, Business, Cinema Studies, Education, Film, Interactive Telecommunications, Musical Theatre Writing, Nursing, Performance Studies and Science at the following NYU faculties:

  • NYU Graduate School of Arts and Science
  • NYU Tisch School of the Arts
  • NYU Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development
  • NYU Leonard N. Stern School of Business
  • NYU College of Nursing

Only applicants who have been accepted by a faculty at NYU can be awarded the Lisa Fox Indigenous Fellowship. In most instances, this will require a First Class Honours degree or a strong Second Class Honours degree. Applicants need to be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent and have tertiary qualifications.

In future years, applicants will need to apply directly to the relevant faculty at NYU for admission to study and also to Aurora in order to apply for the Fellowship. In this first year, as applications have closed for most of these faculties at NYU, it is only necessary to apply for the Fellowship and Aurora will work with the faculties to gain admission for the successful candidate.

The Fellowship is tenable for up to four years. The value of the Fellowship will vary, depending on the fellowship-holder's course of study. The Fellowship covers the cost of tuition and travel, plus an annual stipend of approximately US$30,000 (AUD$29,394) for accommodation and living expenses.

Scholarship for continuing studentsMargaret George Award

Margaret George was a young Australian historian whose work 'Australia and the Indonesian Revolution' was published posthumously by Melbourne University Press in 1980, six years after her premature death. Her book was the first detailed account of Australia's approach to Dutch Indonesian relations between 1945 and 1949.

One of the National Archives' key functions is to encourage and facilitate use of its collection by promoting archival research in Australia and encouraging scholarly use of its holdings.
The National Archives offers Margaret George Awards annually to individuals interested in conducting research substantially utilising its collection.

Successful applicants will have scholarly credentials and will have completed a postgraduate degree as a minimum. Applicants could be emergent historians, academics, independent researchers or journalists with a talent for research. It is desirable that applicants have an established record of achievement in their chosen field and the potential to excel further.
The award is not granted to support current postgraduate or doctoral projects.

Successful applicants may undertake their award at any time from the date of the announcement of the award until 30 June the following year.

The National Archives will provide:
  • a research area at an Archives' office in any Australian capital city
  • access to an Archives' staff member who will act as a first point-of-contact for the successful applicant and assist with coordinating project advice if necessary
  • assistance up to the value of $10,000 for:
    • living supplement during the period of the tenure
    • airfare or equivalent from the applicant's place of residence to the Archives' office where they will undertake the research.

The final grant amount will be at the discretion of the judging panel.

The Archives provides public access to records in its collection that are over 30 years old. The award does not entitle researchers to any special or privileged access.

The Pinnacle Foundation Scholarships

Scholarships will be provided for young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth who desire to undertake full-time or part-time education at a public institution of higher education in Australia. It will be for the purpose of gaining an educational or vocational qualification in any profession, trade or the arts. The grant will sit alongside and complement other government funding rather than duplicate it.

The Scholarship will cover such vital needs as the cost of tuition fees or dues to an approved educational institution, laptop, textbooks, uniforms, professional membership or student union fees and professional tools of trade.

The Scholarship is not designed to support expenses such as pocket money, travel to and from educational establishment or other personal expenses not directly related to their studies.

Scholarships will be granted for a period of one year. However, an existing Scholarship holder is entitled to reapply for the Scholarship should they comply with goals enshrined in The Pinnacle Foundation (Criteria and Process) Policy 2011.

Importantly, payments will be made directly to educational institutions and other suppliers of goods and services. This is so recipients can get on with learning and not get bogged down in paying bills. Plus, as a charity, we might be able to do some good deals with suppliers.

The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Research Foundation Scholarships 2011

Scholarship - Postgraduate
The Scholarship scheme is an application-based, competitive program that enables postgraduate students with research promise to undertake a higher degree at an institution of higher education. Subject to certain conditions, Masters degree candidates may study for a maximum of two years, and PhD students for three years.

In addition to the application-based process, top-up scholarships will be offered to any scholar awarded an APA scholarship from the Universities of Adelaide, South Australia or Flinders who commences full-time postgraduate research at the TQEH in 2011.

Eligibility: Students must be a medical graduate eligible for registration in South Australia, or appropriately qualified science graduate or health professional eligible for enrolment in a university higher degree, and meet citizenship and residency criteria.

Any research of a collaborative nature with university departments outside of TQEH or with other organisations will need terms and conditions to be documented in a research agreement and attached to the Scholarship application.

Scholarship for continuing studentsRhodes Scholarship

The Rhodes Scholarship was established by the University of Oxford in 1902, according to the will of Cecil Rhodes. Applicants for a Rhodes Scholarship are considered on the basis of qualities that Cecil Rhodes listed in order to define the type of scholar he desired:

  • Proven intellectual and academic achievement of a high standard.
  • Integrity of character, interest in and respect for one's fellow beings, the ability to lead, and the energy to use their talents to the full.

Rhodes Scholars must have graduated from a university and resided for a number of years in their country of origin. Candidates must be between the ages of 19 and 24 on 1 October in the year of application. Women have been eligible to hold Rhodes Scholarships since 1976. No special claim to a Rhodes Scholarship is given on the basis of financial need.

Applications opened on 1 June 2011 and will close at 5pm (Eastern Standard Time) on 1 September 2011.

Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) Foundation - Scholarships and Grants

The RAS Foundation provides grants and scholarships to help rural Australians realise their potential through education, make a difference in their community and achieve their ambitions.

E3 (Encouraging Educational Excellence) grants support literacy and numeracy programs in country schools. E3 grants support a range of student and teacher needs such as tuition fees, library books, skills development workshops and extracurricular activities.

Royal Australian Air Force Women's Association Grants

The Royal Australian Air Force Women's Association (RAAFWA) is an organisation created in 1947 and its purpose was to raise money for the educational assistance of needy Royal Australian Air Force families.

Each year the Educational Patriotic Fund Inc (EPF) Committee makes financial grants to students on application to assist with the costs of education; be it primary, secondary, or tertiary.

To be eligible for the grant, it is a requirement that the student has a parent or grand parent, or other close family member (living or dead) who is serving, or had served in RAAF.

There are no specific income limit but of course, grants are decided on actual circumstances and are limited to those families in need.

SARDI Women's Science Bursary

The annual SARDI Science Bursary was established in 1994 to commemorate the South Australian Women's Suffrage Centenary (1894-1994).

Applications are invited from South Australian honours graduates currently undertaking or wishing to undertake post-graduate studies in agriculture, fisheries or forestry science. Candidates must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Applications will be considered on the merit of proposed research programs and the programs alignment with SARDI's strategic directions.

Scholarship for continuing studentsTrevor Prescott Memorial Scholarship

The Masonic Foundation Inc has established through its Special Projects Fund a scholarship scheme to commemorate the contribution made by the late Trevor Prescott, AM to education and youth in the South Australian community.

The scholarships are available to students between 20 and 30 years of age to help them advance their careers through further postgraduate studies or equivalent. There are no set qualifications and preference is not given to a Freemason or to a member of the family. Scholarship value shall be determined by the Foundation Board of Management up to a maximum of $20,000, and may be divided between more than one recipient.

Closing date: 30 June each year

Value: up to $20,000
