Mercury
What is Mercury?
Mercury is a student information system, which is used to manage some of the University's activities which are not handled through Medici. Provision of IT services, such as a network account, is based on student data stored in this system.
Who uses Mercury?
The largest user of the system is the Flexible Learning Centre (FLC) for the dispatch of study materials to students, as well as administration of external exams.
What does Mercury do?
Mercury comprises the following functions:
External exams
Tracks students studying in the external mode who require exam supervision
Materials
Tracks the stocks and storage of resources as they come into and go out of the FLC to students, or to teachers to pass on to students
Dispatch
Manages the dispatch of study packages to students
Production
Tracks and costs the development of materials by the FLC. It is the part of Mercury that manages the orders for duplication of materials
Workshops
Records details of workshops that are conducted by Learning Connection
and other areas within the University; including recording attendees.
Mercury is the database used for RegisterIT, the online version of recording
workshops. There is also an online administration module for staff to create
workshops.
Do I need to have Mercury account?
If you are involved in the activities mentioned above, you may need an account for Mercury. An application form needs to be completed and sent to Student and Academic Services. In addition, you will require software istalled on your computer to run the application. This software will need to be installed by your local IT Support staff member.
All the data in Mercury is copied each night into the Staff Portal to allow staff to have view access and undertake reporting. Therefore, if you need to only view the data then you do not need a Mercury account, you can obtain the data from the my Teaching pillar in the Staff Portal .
