Welcome to the Sansom Institute
There has arguably never been a more exhilarating time to be involved in health and biomedical research. In an era where technological advances and societal shifts are hurtling at lightning speed, the Sansom is riding a wave of innovation, dedicated to research that responds to the health care needs of a rapidly changing world.
Our vision is to produce research with a purpose and to link that research to better health. We believe a good idea that can’t be applied is as wasteful as a medicine that can’t be administered or a policy that excludes those most in need.
Situated in the centre of Adelaide’s premier medical research precinct and housing state-of-the-art laboratory and research facilities, the Sansom Institute provides a dynamic and collaborative environment where postgraduate students and early career researchers work and learn alongside internationally-renowned scientists.
The Institute comprises three major research sectors – in molecular medicine, pharmaceutical science and the quality use of medicines – but within these broad groupings are a number of research groups and centres with expertise in areas as diverse as infectious diseases, pharmacogenomics and autism. Our research sectors are complemented by the Centre for Pharmaceutical Research (CPR), which provides contract research services to the national and international biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries.
We are proud of our strong links with South Australia’s major medical research organisations and hospitals, as well as numerous interstate and overseas universities and research bodies. This close engagement with the broader scientific community gives our staff, students and graduates the opportunity to develop their expertise and ideas in laboratory and academic environments all over the world.
