Kindle & Swag:The Samstag Effect
Works by selected Samstag scholars
A University of South Australia Art Museum travelling exhibition curated by Ross Wolfe
The University of South Australia Art Museum is soon to close for major redevelopment, and when the Art Museum re-opens in 2007, it will have become the second largest public gallery in South Australia.
The Art Museum's final exhibition in its current premises, opening on November 4, 2004 is an exhibition of works by selected Samstag alumni, called Kindle & Swag: The Samstag Effect (715Kb PDF).
The exhibition reveals something of the eclectic richness and cutting edge strategies of Australia's brightest artistic talents, and features selected works by Kristian Burford; Nicholas Folland; Tim Horn; Deborah Paauwe; Nike Savvas; Megan Walch; and Anne Wallace. The artists represent a great diversity of practices, for example photo-media, sculpture and painting. The majority of works displayed are recent works not previously exhibited publicly in Australia.
It is anticipated that there will be high interest in this unique exhibition, not only among the professional artworld, of course, but also the gallery-going community, which has a growing awareness that the Samstag artists are distinguished in many fascinating ways.
Sponsored by the Samstag Program, Kindle and Swag: The Samstag Effect is accompanied by a 50 page catalogue with essays on each artist. The exhibition will travel to the Queensland University of Technology Art Museum, opening 4 February to 24 April 2005.
The Samstag Scholarships are administered by the University of South Australia on behalf of Gordon Samstag's trustee, Bank of America Private Bank, Florida, USA.
