The 2009 Anne & Gordon Samstag
International Visual Arts Scholarships
The University of South Australia regrets to advise intending applicants that Samstag Scholarships will not be offered in 2008, for study overseas in the visual arts from 2009. The University awards the scholarships on behalf of the Trustee of the estate of Gordon Samstag, late of Naples, Florida USA.
The Samstag Trustee has recently advised the University that, due to the detrimental circumstances presently affecting financial markets worldwide, a moratorium on awarding scholarships is prudent, and will ensure that the in-perpetuity capability of the Samstag Trust is well preserved. It is intended that Samstag Scholarships next be offered in 2009, for study programs that commence in 2010.
The Trustee has expressed very strong confidence in the Samstag Scholarship’s long-term future as a result of taking these difficult, though sensible, cautionary measures.
The Trustee and the University apologise to those artists who had hoped to make applications for Samstag Scholarships this year. A total of 116 Samstag Scholarships have been awarded since the Program’s inception in 1992.
Information on the 2010 Samstag Scholarship offer will be available on the Samstag website from January, 2009.
