OHS study options
Occupational health and safety (OHS) is an area of prime importance in the management of enterprises and other workplaces, generating a demand for qualified occupational health and safety professionals. This program of courses is designed to enable graduates to work effectively in a range of OHS professional roles, such as:
- OHS Managers and program coordinators in private industry or the public sector;
- occupational physicians, occupational health nurses, occupational hygienists, ergonomists;
- physiotherapists and occupational therapists (supplementing other professional qualifications);
- government OHS inspectors and consultants;
- independent OHS consultants and advisers OHS advisers working with unions and worker organisations; and,
- OHS educators.
The courses are offered in a partnership between the University of South Australia (School of Psychology) and the University of Adelaide (Discipline of Public Health).
South Australia enjoys a reputation as being at the forefront of occupational health and safety management with a progressive approach to OHS by industry and innovative legislative reforms by government. This program of courses provides academic qualifications which have national and international application in the occupational health and safety profession.
The Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Masters Degree form an articulated sequence of programs allowing direct entry into any one program or progression according to educational needs. Typically, all courses are offered in internal and online modes at least once a year. This may vary according to the availability of staff, enrolment numbers and industry demand.
