Justification for selection
In this section of the portfolio, you can record the reasons why you selected each of your four best outputs. Where appropriate you can include descriptions of the significance of the output, the research content, as well as the nature and significance of your contribution to the output, if it is multi-authored. For each output the system will automatically display:
- Research output type
- Journal
- Title
- Author(s)
- Journal Impact Factor
Citation data
There will also be a box for you to record the number of citations that the
publication has received and the source of this citation data (eg Thomson
Web of Science).

Justification for selection information
Journal impact factor ranking relative to the
subject category (or field of research) might be used as a justification for
selection (eg from Thomson Journal Citation Reports).
Justifications should include evidence of the research quality of the output. Such evidence might also include work published by high quality publishers, highly ranked international/national conferences and high quality journals in the field of research which may not be included in Thomson databases.
For multi-authored research outputs, notes should also be made of the extent of your contribution to the research output. This might have entailed the design of the research or conceptual framework, or the provision of leadership or supervision for the research.
