Introduction

The first generic quality refers to the higher degree by research student's comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of the literature of the research area, detailed knowledge of appropriate research methodologies, ability to perform critical analysis and, most importantly, ability to produce original knowledge. An ability to write effectively is crucial to this process, and is a skill that can be developed. Resources to support skill development in this area are listed below. UTS: STAR (Skills to Advance Your Research) is a web-based resource from the University of Technology designed to support postgraduate research students. It offers a range of resources in support of student research and thesis writing.
