Why Research Education Support Activities (RESA)?
HDR students who receive additional support at the start of their candidature are more likely to complete their research degree program with success. Participation in RESA is important in supporting HDR students to:
- develop key research skills and knowledge such as:
- academic writing
- critical thinking
- introductory data analysis and software package familiarisation
- information retrieval
- career planning
- enable cross-disciplinary research networking and support.
Research Degree Graduate Qualities
RESA will also assist HDR students to develop the Research Degree Graduate Qualities (RDGQ). These Qualities have been identified by the UniSA community as appropriate to the University's distinct mission and profile. Under the terms of the Statement of Agreement a student needs to list in the successive and final Reviews of Progress all activities undertaken to develop the RDGQ.
Please note: although all RESA workshops have relevance to the Graduate Qualities,
some workshops address particular Qualities. In these cases the
Qualities are listed next to the workshop title.
How to participate
- It is expected that commencing students in their first year of candidature will participate in core RESA events.
- We recommended that continuing students work with supervisors to tailor RESA participation to meet their specific research education needs.
