Writers' circles for commencing students series 1 and 2
Writers' circles are language workshops for research students focusing on use of appropriate English conventions for research writing and speaking within the academic research context. These workshops are not designed to replace the core series (business, social sciences and humanities; sciences, health sciences, engineering and technology) but to provide additional English language support for students for whom English is an additional language.
Workshop content includes various aspects of academic English language usage and expression, for example, paraphrasing and reporting the ideas of others; developing a cohesive text using directives, linking words and theme; strengthening sentence construction through word order, agreement, verb choice, tentative language; and discussing grammar and punctuation. Activities focus on writing at the sentence, paragraph and section level, including writing; discussing specific language topics, and most importantly, providing constructive peer feedback on participants' research writing.
You will have opportunities to deal with writing issues, enjoy writing, ask questions, network, and learn from one another. Regular attendance will enable you to contribute to a dynamic group of research students engaging with the challenge of developing their English writing skills during their research.
