Thesis discussion groups
For business, social sciences, health sciences and humanities
Thesis discussion groups are for PhD, Masters and Professional doctorate by research students in business, social sciences, health sciences and humanities. They are for students at any stage of their research candidature.
Description
Thesis discussion groups are ongoing peer-led meetings of about five to ten students from different schools within the University. Each group meets once a fortnight for two hours, and is supported by a discussion list where meeting minutes, thesis drafts, readings and other information can be posted. Some groups are facilitated by a Research Education Adviser, others operate independently.
Each meeting focuses on a draft of writing, usually a chapter, journal article, ethics proposal, research proposal or conference paper. Students provide written comments on drafts and work together to improve the clarity of the writing in preparation for supervision meetings, proposal panels, publication or other writing deadlines. The groups provide a safe but critical environment in which to work on ideas, build writing skills, and sustain motivation and confidence.
How to access
New groups are formed each year. If you would like to join a thesis discussion group you can attend the RESA series, or email or phone Wendy Bastalich directly (wendy.bastalich@unisa.edu.au ext 22760).
