Communicating your research to the public: how to impress producers and work on radio

PhD, Masters and Professional doctorate by research students, graduate students and early career researchers are invited to participate in this series of three workshops in the disciplines of sciences, health sciences and engineering.

You will already have identified an area of your work that you wish to communicate to the public and have a story, finding or project that you wish to communicate. The series consists of three workshops and ideally you are available to attend all three.

Writing for the media

Prerequisite: prepare a promotional story about your work (300 words maximum) before the workshop and submit it to Dr Judy Ford (judy.ford@unisa.edu.au) by 28 September

Masterclass: How to present to the media

Prerequisite: attend a Writing for the media workshop on 5 or 8 October

The Masterclass will be an evening presentation by producers from national broadcasting and commercial Radio Stations and TV. Some participants from the workshops will be invited to be interviewed by a producer, who will demonstrate how people how screened for their suitability for different programs. A light meal and drinks will be served during the evening.

Practice on radio

Participants will be interviewed by an experienced radio interviewer. Interviews will be taped but will not go to air. Light refreshments will be provided.
