Consultancy has designs on future

by Nicole Mikajewski

The Architecture Museum's first book in its monograph series book coverThe Architecture Museum called upon the University’s Visual Communications Consultancy to design the first book in its Monograph Series, Russell S Ellis, and the catalogue for the exhibition Architectural Preludes.

Director of the Bachelor of Visual Communication (Honours) program in the South Australian School of Art, Lynda Kay said the experience of designing these publications "gave the students an opportunity to work with ‘real’ clients on ‘real’ jobs".

The consultancy is comprised of students undertaking a Bachelor of Visual Communications (Honours) degree and over the past 10 years has developed into a small business-like operation. They work with a range of clients from government, private and public sectors, non-profit organisations and universities. Some of the clients include the Helpmann Academy, South Australian Masters Athletics, Adelaide Hills Wine Region, Hahndorf Academy, Arts Access SA and agencies that support housing for refugees and asylum seekers.

"They provide design solutions for some nationally recognised brands, events and publications," Kay said.

The consultancy’s graphic design team is currently involved with the Australasian Masters Games, designing the official logo, banners, publications and medals for the October 2007 event.

The opportunity to work with clients such as the Architecture Museum, and the Australasian Masters Games helps students to build impressive portfolios of published work.
