UniSA wins $1.5 million Research Network bid
The University of South Australia won an Australian Research Council (ARC) Research Network bid of $1.5 million over five years as part of $42 million committed by the Australian Government. ARC Research Networks are platforms for generating new knowledge in areas that span traditional disciplinary boundaries. Networks link researchers, research groups and others involved in innovation, nationally and internationally. The University of South Australia was one of 24 successful applicants under this scheme.
Congratulations to the Network Convenor, Professor Lars Rasmussen and to Professor Alex Grant, both from the Institute for Telecommunications Research, who were instrumental in coordinating the Australian Communications Research Network (ACRN). ACRN brings together an impressive network of over 120 esteemed researchers working in the field of information and communication technologies both nationally and internationally.
Australian Communications Research Network
Building on a strong platform of existing research excellence, the aim of the Network is to facilitate nationwide collaborative research, promoting four intersecting research themes:
- Mobile and wireless communications
- Rural communications
- Broadband and optical networks
- Fundamentals of emerging media
Each theme is formulated to drive multidisciplinary, innovative research as well as inspire new collaborative initiatives. Four programs encapsulate the core activities of the Network: Researcher Mobility, Workshops and Conferences, Postgraduate Education, and Knowledge Management Systems. The Network is expected to add significant value to pre-existing investments and raise the profile of Australian telecommunications research.
