A
postgraduate scholarship is available in the
School of Mathematics and
Statistics at the
University of South Australia to pursue a PhD in the area of
mathematical sciences.
The project aim is to evaluate electronic assessment of sea cage biomass for on-farm feeding and harvesting strategies for yellowtail kingfish (YTK) at Clean Seas Tuna (CST) Ltd. farm sites. Currently CST manually estimates YTK biomass however this is labour intensive and intrusive, thereby stressing and damaging the fish. However electronic systems use algorithms developed from morphometric characteristics of the cultured species. Thus the project will focus on calibrating, validating and implementing the Vaki biomass counter system and AM100 stereo camera system. The candidate will be based at the University of South University (UniSA), and will also work with investigators at SARDI, industry mentors at CST and with researchers at the University of Tasmania and Norwegian group NOFIMA.
