University-wide scholarships for Australian research degree applicants
Successful applicants for these scholarships may be eligible for a top-up scholarship of up to $4,791 per annum (total scholarships stipend equivalent to 2011 APAI rate).
Area-specific scholarships are also available.

Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA)
Funded by the Commonwealth Government's Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR), the Australian Postgraduate Award includes a stipend and exemption from the payment of tuition fees for a limited time in the form of a Research Training Scheme (RTS) place.
If you are applying for an APA you may also be eligible for a top-up scholarship
Benefits and conditions: You must read the APA scholarship benefits and conditions (PDF file, 485 kb) before signing the declaration at the bottom of the application form. These conditions apply to all people who accept offers from the University of South Australia for the APA or USAPA scholarship.
Eligibility: Available to Australian and New Zealand citizens and permanent residents of Australia.

Value: $23,728 per annum for 3 years (2012 stipend rate). Limited relocation expenses may be reimbursed. A thesis allowance is available.

University of South Australia Postgraduate Awards (USAPA)
These scholarships are funded by the University of South Australia and with the same conditions as the Australian Postgraduate Award. These scholarships are based on the areas of research strength across the University.
Applicants who are not successful in being awarded an APA may be considered for a USAPA.
The award includes a stipend and exemption from the payment of tuition fees for a limited time (up to 4 years equivalent to undertake a doctorate by research or 2 years equivalent to undertake a Masters by Research).
These scholarships are not transferable to any other institution.

UniSA Rural and Isolated Scholarship
This scholarship is funded by the University of South Australia and with the same conditions as the Australian Postgraduate Award (tuition and living allowance scholarship).
Eligibility: Available to Australian citizens and permanent residents of Australia originally from a rural, regional or isolated area.

Value: $28,715 (2012 rate), plus a one-off establishment grant of $5,000. Limited relocation expenses may be reimbursed. A thesis allowance is available.
If applying, you will need to provide a statement of up to 500 words outlining any special circumstances related to previous or current residency in a rural or regional area within Australia and the consequences of this for your educational access and participation. Selection will be made on merit.

UniSA Indigenous Scholarship
This scholarship is funded by the University of South Australia and with the same conditions as the Australian Postgraduate Award (tuition and living allowance scholarship).
One scholarship is available each year to be awarded to an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicant who is applying to do a research degree at UniSA.
Eligibility: Available to Australian citizens and permanent residents of Australia.
