Eligibility for scholarships
Australian
Applicants for scholarships must read the scholarship benefits and conditions (RTF file, 860kb; Word file, 85kb) before signing the declaration at the bottom of the application form. These conditions apply to all people who accept offers from the University of South Australia for either of the scholarships listed in the document.
Summary of the main eligibility factors
- Generally a first class Honours or equivalent is necessary to gain a scholarship at UniSA.
- Scholarships are awarded on the basis that the candidate will be studying full-time. In some cases, candidates can apply to receive scholarships on a part-time basis if there are compelling social reasons (such as the need to provide full-time care of children, disabled, sick, injured or the elderly). The need to undertake part- or full-time work is not considered as a compelling social reason.
Awards will not be made to persons who:
- are in receipt of an equivalent major award or scholarship or salary from any other source, other than approved supplementary scholarships of lesser value, or remuneration for approved part-time employment
- have completed a PhD degree or equivalent
- have completed a Masters degree or equivalent unless commencing a PhD
- have had more than six months of an Australian Government Postgraduate Award before (unless changing from a Program Award to a Research Award)
- seek to undertake paid employment on a full-time or on a
substantial part-time basis.
International

These conditions apply to all people who accept offers from the University of South Australia for either of the scholarships listed in the document.
Summary of the main eligibility factors
- Generally, a first class Honours or equivalent is necessary in order to gain a scholarship at UniSA.
- An awardee must be enrolled on a full-time basis as a candidate for a Masters or PhD at the University of South Australia.
- An awardee shall be enrolled as an internal candidate at the University of South Australia.
Awards will not be made to persons who:
- are in receipt of an equivalent major award or scholarship or salary from any other source, other than approved supplementary scholarships of lesser value
- have completed a PhD degree or equivalent
- have completed a Masters degree or equivalent unless commencing a PhD
- have had more than three months of an Australian Government Postgraduate Award before
- seek to undertake paid employment on a full-time or on a substantial part-time basis.
A President's Scholarship (UPS) will usually be granted to students from
institutions with which UniSA has a history of the exchange of
students and ideas. Check the list of
institutions with
recognised links to UniSA to see if your previous university is
affiliated.
Assessment of scholarship applications

All scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic merit and research capacity and potential to complete a research degree. Once eligibility is assessed, scholarship applications are assessed on:
- undergraduate academic record
- Honours level/Honours equivalence
- referees' reports
- publications
- professional employment history
- area of research strength
Notification of results
You will receive notification of the results of your scholarship application as part of the general notification of the results of your degree application.
