Dedicated short range communications

International studentsAustralian studentsA postgraduate scholarship is available in the Institute for Telecommunications Research at the University of South Australia to pursue a PhD in the exciting and emerging area of dedicated short range communications for vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure communications. The student will conduct theoretical and applied research in physical layer wireless communications methods. The project focuses on the innovative use of multiple antennas, channel modelling, coding and signal processing techniques to increase reliability, throughput, and coverage of vehicular ad-hoc networks.  The main task is to devise improved transmission strategies for with an emphasis on efficiency, simplicity, and scalability to allow for practical implementation. Of particular interest is integration with vehicle positioning systems such as GPS and radar.

This project is in collaboration with leading DSRC technology company Cohda Wireless.

Payment information

The candidate will receive a tax-free scholarship of $26,669 tax free per annum (2009 rate).

Eligibility

This scholarship is for study in Australia for those who have achieved Honours 1 or equivalent, or Honours 2a or equivalent. Australian citizens, permanent residents of Australia, New Zealand citizens are eligible. International students are also eligible.
