During the time it takes to complete a research degree, your life circumstances will inevitably change. You may embark on a program of study, only to find that work or family commitments alter, making it difficult to study effectively. If balancing other commitments makes study difficult, you may wish to consult a counsellor.
Trained counsellors are available on each campus. Counsellors provide a daily drop-in service for internal and external students with an immediate personal issue or concern, and a telephone service for students with urgent issues. International student advisers are available on all campuses.
In some cases it may be advisable to take a period of leave from your candidature. Up to 12 months is permitted for genuine reasons, as set out in your candidature information. Note that leave can only be taken in six month blocks. If taking leave from your studies, you will need to apply via a Variation to candidature form.
Chaplains are available to all students and staff, providing pastoral care for a wide range of needs. They are provided by specific denominations but are open to being a resource for anyone seeking their services.
