Research Degrees Committee

About the committee

The Research Degrees Committee (RDC), a subcommittee of Academic Board, chaired by the Dean of Graduate Studies, has the delegated authority in matters relating to the management and administration of research degrees. Through RDC, the University is responsible for establishing a policy and quality assurance framework for the management of research degree programs, including academic regulations for those programs.

In line with the relevant academic regulations, RDC is responsible for making decisions on each candidate's completion of all requirements for the award of a research degree and for recommending to Council that the degree be awarded. RDC ensures a structured program (Research Education Support Activities) for research degree students is available each year. Research and Innovation Services is responsible for administering the decisions of the Research Degrees Committee.

Research Degrees Committee has a Scholarships Panel to handle the routine business concerning scholarships without the necessity for a full meeting of the committee. Membership of the Research Degrees Committee includes members of the University's Senior Management Group, Division representatives (normally, the Chair of the Division Research Management Committee) and representatives from Student and Academic Services, Research and Innovation Services, and the student body.
