Strategic plan
In an increasingly interconnected, globalised
world, it is the mission of the Research Centre for Languages and
Cultures to be a national and international leader in shaping the agenda
of languages, cultures and intercultural learning. The RCLC will be an
impetus for change, improving understanding of how language both shapes
and is shaped by the diverse cultures in which people are located in
their social and professional lives. In achieving these aims, the RCLC
is committed to collaborative research and sustained innovation, and its
application in quality teaching, consultancy, and community engagement,
underpinned by an ethical and critical stance. Consistent with these
priorities, the mission of RCLC is four-fold:
- to conduct internationally recognised research that improves
understanding of the world’s languages and cultures and their
role in education, the professions and society — the scholarship
of discovery;
|
- to be a leader in the application of language and culture
based research by carrying out targeted projects, informed by
national and international collaborations, and drawing on
interdisciplinary and interprofessional networks — the
scholarship of application;
|
- to set the agenda in emerging and ongoing debates in the
field, including the theoretical and professional opportunities
and challenges associated with language policy, teaching and
learning, identity and professional practice in international
contexts — the scholarship of integration;
|
- to make an ongoing, state of the art contribution to the
knowledge and professional practice of those, such as teachers
and other professionals, whose work draws on an understanding of
language and culture — the scholarship of teaching.
