The
School of Psychology was formed in 1994. Since then it has created a suite of
Australian
Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) accredited degrees from Bachelors through to Masters
and both Professional and Research Doctoral programs.
The School focuses on practical and professional psychology:
The School also offers PhD research degrees in many areas of psychology. The following specialty areas of research are offered, some through the School's Centre for Applied Psychological Research:
- Work and stress
- Sleep research : driving fatigue, shift work and insomnia
- Aging and its effects
- Community and social psychology, especially migrant and refugee communities
- Forensic psychology, criminal conduct and prisons
- Counselling
- Clinical psychology
Throughout the School's activities and programs runs the common thread of an emphasis on preparing students for practical and professional work. Most staff have personal and active experience in one or more of these professional or applied areas. There is also a School-wide emphasis on students gaining practical experience and skills at all levels of their study.
